Customer Questions & Answers

Does this mower work good on tall grass

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, although you may have to go over a spot several times from different directions to get the blades that bent out of the way.

is grass catcher removable when needed and easy to put back into place when not?

Asked by: counselingyogi
This grass-catcher removes within seconds and snaps back in place on the black bar that stretches between the small back wheels. The chain goes over the lower cross-bracing bar on the handle and hooks onto the bar that stretches across the catcher. Easy peasy. Good luck.

Is the catcher removable?

If I want the trimmings on the lawn, is it possible to remove the catcher?
Asked by: AAMTexas
Yes, this catcher removes within seconds. It is very easy to use. I used it last weekend and kept a ton of clippings off of my lawn. Good luck.

Customer Reviews

20 in. Reel Mower with Grass Catcher is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 247.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent environmentally friendly mower There was very little assembly. It adjusts to a wider range of heights than my cumbersome gas mower and doesn't stink up the garage with fumes. There is no need for hearing or eye protection. This thing is great! I can mow late without waking up neighbor kids and more comfortably since I'm not wearing safety equipment. I did it late one evening in sandals just because i could! And I can do the small paths of grass with less effort than starting up the gas monster. One small benefit that's personal to me is knowing it was built about fifty miles from where I was born. Maybe it was built by a relative, now that is cool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good mower for smaller lawns Bought this based on reviews and the Manufacturer's brand. It is a well built mower, easy to assemble. Only issue to date is the catch basket - none of the grass gets shot into the basket - it all goes up as the blade comes round and under. So, gave up on the basket and rake the clippings up - only 260 square feet, so not an issue for us but might be an issue for some. Otherwise, would recommend. Just remember, its "human powered" so once you get momentum, do not cease. In other words, once you get it moving and cutting, keep it going! It's the way it's designed and is not too hard to push across the grass.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected. This isn't your Grandpa's mower you remember when you were a kid. Here were the biggest issues for me: 1) They say the grass bag is expected to pick up 90% or so of the grass clippings... No way, more like 90% of the clippings get left on the lawn. Where the bag clips onto the more would keep coming up, and not allowing the grass to settle in. Quite annoying. 2) If you went to fast, the mower would "skip" over the grass and not cut it. You have to go just the right speed. This mower might make sense for someone that has a bigger lawn than I do. But I needed a little more accuracy. I could have lived with it if the bag actually picked up the grass. That was the major reason I returned this mower.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing mower, okay assembly Using this mower is a dream. It's nearly effortless, adjusts easily, and cuts evenly, even my way overgrown yard where some of the grass was 9" tall! Assembly.... wasn't horrible. Most of the parts were common sense, though they have apparently changed some of the screws to only need one kind and haven't bothered to update the instructions accordingly. My biggest gripe however were the 'e clips' for securing the handle to the reel. Putting those two evil things on took as long or longer than the rest of the assembly combined, hence the knocked off star. Overall, I'd still buy it again, and very well may some years/decades(?) from now when this one gives up the ghost if it continues performing at this level.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use mower, grass catcher a miss The mower itself is great. Has a nice range of heights and is extremely easy to use. It doesn't cut well while turning a corner, but that isn't a problem because the mower is so lightweight it's easy to just pull back a couple feet and quickly re-cut. The grass catcher is a dud. Most of the grass flies up and over the blades, rather than neaty back into the bag. However, as long as you cut your lawn frequently, leaving the clippings on the lawn itself is actually good for the grass, so I'm mollified.

PROS: Cuts really well @ multiple height settings and is very easy to push. And, of course, price is right. CONS: Basket catches the grass in the front causing it to pile up quickly -- has to be emptied frequently. (2) lower handle screws went MIA after shaking loose from vibration despite tightening them really well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked great! I have a very large yard which is all Bermuda. We have always cut our lawn with a large rider but never liked the heavy mower on the yard. We purchased this reel mower and love it! It took me several passes to learn the feel and to keep a good pace but love the finished product. It will be my bi-weekly workout for the summer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I bought sooner! Goodbye gas mower! Fresh out of the box, assembly was 10 minutes, foam was already on handle bar too! This beauty is light and easy to use. Simple dials on wheels to adjust height and wide range to choose from. I personally couldn't tell a difference between pushing a gas mower and this reeler resistance wise. Hold the center bar and place your forarms on the side bars, walk and sort of lean into it and you're on your way. It's actually more comfortable versus holding a vibrating bar and having to exert force through your arms into your hands like you would do for a gas mower. It cuts beautifully too! Gas mowers tend to tear and leave jagged brown tips, my grass blades after the reeler were cut crisp and clean. Contrary to some other reviews, I was able to cut weeds too with the exception of big deal. It handled well on bumpy terrain and turned well too. It was a pleasant experience too because there isn't a motor blaring in your ear and you aren't walking through fumes. It does stop when jammed with a stick but it's as easy as using your foot to spin the blade backward and you're on you're way. My kids were able to run around the yard without getting hurt by projectiles and actually started fighting over who got to use the mower next! You read right...a mower that is FUN to use!!
