Answer:
Depends what type of grass you have. Summergaurd is great on St. Augustine. Really greens it up and no cinch worms. St. Augustine is a broad leaf grass. So be careful what you use. Read the label on Scotts fertilizer. Use one that says good for as all grass.

Answer:
Summerguard really only helps by building turf to overshadow the weeds and kills bugs. This fall and winter try WinterGuard with Weed Control Fertilizer. Then in spring switch to Scotts Turf Builder Fertilizer with Plus 2 Weed Control, then go back to summerguard for summer. They say dandelions aren't actually weeds and that they produce nitrogen that feeds lawns, but I like the just grass look.

Answer:
SummerGuard helps grass to be thick and lush, which does help prevent new weeds from getting started. However, it does not have anything in it to kill weeds that are already there. If you want to use a weed killer this time of year, make sure you are expecting temperatures under 85 degrees.

Hi Dandalion Queen,
Love your screen name.
TurfBuilder SummerGuard is fertilizer with insecticide added to it. There is no herbicide, or weed killer in SummerGuard.
Apply Scott's Weed-B-Gon to the dandelions to kill them. The liquid will enter the weeds through their leaves to kill them, roots and all. It takes a few weeks to see results, but it works, guaranteed.

I live in California and as everyone knows we are in a drought. The high nitrogen number on this product has me worried because I can only water 3 times a week. Will this product kill my grass along with the bugs?

If daytime temperatures are expected to exceed 85, water after applying the product. If you are currently under watering restrictions and temperatures exceed 85, do not use until the product can be watered in.

Answer:
NO!!! You run the risk of burning your lawn with the high nitrogen in this product. Unless you water everyday and keep it super moist your looking at a brown lawn in less then 2 weeks. Read some of the reviews for summer lay down... never good results.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Scotts summerguard The lawn is really green and it helped with the weeds. People have actually comments on how nice the yard looks. August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Produced weeds I've always fertilized my lawn with positive results. I gave the summer guard a try to cut down on my water bills; and it turned my entire lawn into a "weeding" frenzy. Hopefully they'll die off after the winter season, and I can start over. August 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Ruined My Lawn Applied to my lawn a couple of weeks ago. I have used it in past years with good results. I was cautious not to over apply. Shortly after applying, I noticed that my lawn was having brown spots. Although I watered the lawn, it kept getting worse. Now it is really painful to look at June 28, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by I should have listened to reviews I read the reviews and bought this product despite it because I normally love all scotts products. Within one week of applying this, I had brown spots all over my lawn. I do everything with my lawn - water on a timely basis, fertilize when I am suppose to, cut at the appropriate length, etc. Never again! Not sure what is in this new formula but DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! August 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Brown Spots After Use Going into summer I had the best lawn on the block. I live in southern Maryland and got plenty of rain. I also have an in ground sprinkler system for the few weeks we did not get an inch of rain. Like I said a really great lawn going into summer. I put down Scott’s summer guard the first weekend in July and now have brown spots with weeds growing in. My last application of any lawn products was 4 months ago and I followed the directions on the bag letter by letter so I am sure I did not over apply. Come on Scott’s give us weekend warriors a break. You’re killing a lot of good lawns with this current summer guard product. July 13, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Minor Yellowing after use I had read some reviews on this product that had very mixed results. I decided to give it a try anyways since I'd had such good results with other Scotts products. After reading about the coverage issues some people had wrote about and burning, I backed the Scott's rotary spreader down to 3.5 hoping to avoid both the problems stated above. I waited till early evening (when the temp dropped) to apply, then watered for a solid 30 minutes afterwards. Fast forward a week, now I have a mixed green and some minor yellowing happening and 3 or 4 brown spots about a foot wide on my Bermuda sod. I'm hoping with some extra watering I can recover my lawn to how it looked before I used summer guard. I'll be sticking with regular turf builder from now on. July 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This product is sucks! I am a person who takes pride in maintaining a good looking lawn, I can't say perfect because no one has a perfect lawn their will always have flaws in it regardless. I wish this site had to where you could post pictures of your before the fertilizer was applied and after the fact. I used their Scott's fertilizer spreader read there directions on how to generally apply fertilizer. I took it upon myself to water every morning and every evening just I could have ground and grass a bit saturated prior to applying so that way the grass and ground don't get shocked the day I laid down the fertilizer, morning after I didn't need to water because it was raining the following next morning, what better way to apply fertilizer I said to myself. It had rained for three days not non stop but in the evenings it would have a light shower for about 2 hours and same in the mornings. After the daily percentage of rain went away my lawn started to die in multiple places! I don't just have a story I have pics to back up what I'm expressing by far this a horrible product. July 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Brown Patch fungus after use Like the gentleman from Maryland, I had a great looking lawn until I used this product. I live in the Nashville, TN area. I applied per instructions back on June 21st and now have brown patch fungus in my entire yard. While I know this product did not cause the brown patch fungus, the nitrogen in the product did not help matters. I have used Scotts products for years and have been very happy. I will continue to use them, However, I will no longer be applying this "Summer" fertilizer. July 19, 2016
