Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bean Update on my frist review DO NOT GET MULCH WET for 24hrs after laying
I reviewed this black mulch last month and asked Home Depot to remove my review because it wouldn't allow me to update of edit. I first gave this mulch a one star because it lost color right after I water the plants after laying the mulch in my yard.
This is what I learned. DO NOT WATER MULCH FOR 24hrs. This mulch is wet when it comes out of the bags. Allow it to dry 24 hrs after installing and then water your plants. There is no instructions that tell you this, I came by it from trial and error. The color did not change and I am very happy to report after a month of watering plants in the mulch the color is still as dark as when I first purchased it.
I hope this helps others in the future.

I am very disappointed with this mulch. I just put it down not even a week ago and it is faded (as if it were from 2 seasons ago). I went with Scott's (which was more money) because of the 12 month color! What a joke. I will not be recommending this to anyone and will defiantly never get it again.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Ralph Where did the color go?
I took advantage of the 5 for $10 Memorial Day sale and bought 15 bags. I was covering areas where I had put another brand of red mulch last year. We had a short but medium to heavy rain two days later (1/2 inch in 8 hours). In all the areas that were directly exposed the color bleed so badly that it looks gray; as if it has been there for over a year. The year old red in a couple of spots I didn't get to looks better. Neighbors that had a black mulch product put down by landscapers looks fine by comparison.
I stopped buying Scott's grass seed because the germination rate was poor versus much cheaper brands, now I'll never buy their mulch again regardless of the great price as it too much work to put it down and get such a washed out result.

Package reads guarantee color for 12 months. REALLY !!!
I purchased 5 bags of the Black Earthgro mulch and it was applied for 1 month and the color is brown.
What guarantee is the 12 months for?
I have used Scott's products before and never had such a disappointing experience. I am really particular about my landscaping and now I am really upset that this summer I have to look at brown mulch.
Would never buy this product again!

I buy the earthgro every year and have now tried all of the colors. I thought that the black and the red lost their color quickly and they seemed to break down pretty fast. This year, i bought the brown since i liked the way the brown looked at houses around me, we bought 100 bags!!! Sadly, the color looked nice and bright for just about a week before it started dulling. I wish someone could make a mulch that keeps that nice rich color all the time! We buy the mulch for the benefit of a little weed control, but after exhausting every color, it may be time to move on to a new brand :-/

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by perry cheap and still not worth it
put this mulch down and in less than 36 hours the color was gone
the second night we had light rain (barely more than steady drizzle)
now there is a straight line where the edge of the roof is with no color at all
what's left just looks like ground up construction demolition (no nails, but broken wood bits)
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME
