Answer:
I have found that once I started to read the instructions on the bag for Earth Gro Brown that the color lasted longer. The bag instructions states" Turn mulch over after about 4-5 months to get a consistant color. Also do not apply mulch right before a rain 24-48 hours.
I love this product. I am sorry to hear that my Home Depot in 2016 will not be carrying Nature Scapes any longer

I had purchased the red nature scapes in the past. The colors were vibrant but differed quite a lot from bag to bag. Also, the red color faded from the sun. I bought brown earth grow mulch this year and am very satisfied with the results.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Something went wrong this year After using this product for several years without issues. This year has been a nightmare. I bought 50 bags for my yard and I spread it about a month ago. Now wherever I spread this mulch I have some plants growing. Seems it came with some seeds that sprouted perfectly in my yard. At the beginning I thought it was some seeds from a nearby garden, but none of my neighbors have the problem but me. So clearly it came with the mulch. I have spent hours trying to get rid of those but I have at least 20 more hours of work to get rid of all. Next time I am changing the brand June 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Extreme Color Variations This is the first time I have utilized mulch on my extensive array of gardens. I choose Scott's due to their superior reputation. I purchased 60 bags. 10 Red and 50 Brown. It takes me 45 minutes roundtrip to my nearest Home Depot, so I made 5 trips with my SUV. While I was making these trips, my sons were spreading the mulch. I was disappointed to see they had spread 2 bags of red mulch that had only a hint of red on them! Worse yet, despite making all the trips to the same Home Depot (East Hanover, NJ), Half of my "brown" mulch was really a shade of RED! I don't see how I could purchase any more without really knowing the color! April 18, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible color variation bag to bag and clumps of clay see pics for yourself. I don't know how the color can be guaranteed for 12 months when it is missing in the first place. I had to mix half bags in my wheel barrow to even out the color somewhat June 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Brown Mulch I want to put down mulch to hold the water in the rose garden so I puchase15 bags. Out of the 15 bags there were large chucks of dirt/clay in the bags, measuring 4 to 5 inches and about 1 inch thick. I had to go back and purchase more since I did not calculate right. When to the same store the next day. Lay it down next to the other one and it was a different shade of brown, had reddest in it. Hopefully in time it will fade. May 29, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Different Mulch in same SKU Same SKU, different mulch among bags taken from same skid at store. Disappointed with Scotts and HD for not checking quality. Shredded mulch vs pine chip mulch. The picture shows the difference. Even the dog knows which is the correct one. Will be re-thinking my mulch purchases at HD next time. May 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Second year I have purchased this product. The bark in bags is easy for me to handle. The size is good and lasted very well over the winter. I added more to my flower beds this spring for a better barrier against weeds and to conserve moisture. Only a few too large pieces and that seemed to be only one bag. I really like this brand and watch for Home Depot's sale each spring. April 28, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Ok Cheap Mulch I bought 37 bags of the brown mulch and each bag was totally different. The quality of the mulch shredding differ from bag to bag. Some bags had very course shavings and some had fine shavings. Had to empty into a pile and mix together to get a uniform consistency. April 18, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Scotts earthgrow mulch- We have been using this now for a few years. At a great price when on sale you cannot beat the value. The first year we loved it although a few neighbors had some issues with the color we did not. We purchase close to 200 bags if not more. The bagged mulch is easier to move around and spread out than the bulk. This year I am disappointed for a few reasons, moldy mulch, a lot of large unshredded pieces along with assorted trash( Lego found in one bag) (large piece of metal found in another not to mention paper of various sizes) lastly, not even after a week of putting it down there were tons of weeds coming thru... Next year we will be looking at quality vs. value. June 19, 2016
