Thank you so much Scotts for not discouraging insects - I want the bumblebees to stay happy sleeping in my dahlia's and the other bees in my flowers - thank you for being a good steward for the planet. The bark mulch is beautiful and affordable. Its extremely unlikely there will be any weed issues - people who had them likely had the seeds there Under the mulch in the First place ! !

Answer:
Most insects are not attracted by mulch, but some could be. Our mulches are not treated to deter insects. Insects are natural to the environment, and some insects could find a mulch a suitable place to live. As a general precaution to discourage subterranean termites and other wood damaging insects we suggest keeping mulch a couple inches away from home foundations.

We haven't had any problems with new weeds popping up. In fact, this stuff helps keep the weeds away, since it blocks them from the sunlight.

Answer:
This mulch was on sale on Memorial Day and Labor Day for pretty cheap. When I spread it on a weedless flowerbed, all of these Canadian Thistles popped up, like 100's of them . The seeds must have been in the mulch. It took a lot of RoundUp ounces to finally remove the Thistles from my flowerbeds. Other than that for the price the color was fair.

Answer:
Not sure on that other than maybe color seepage or as with any wood product, firewood etc., you don't want to have wood butt up against any foundation that could invite termites to nest up along your foundation. Termites would not come from the mulch, but love wood. It could also be that the mulch is good at retaining moisture and that might not be good for foundations.

Because the mulch tends to hold in moisture and water may leak into the foundation. I personally put my mulch up against the foundation and I never had any problems. Plus it looks better that way. Another reason I put my mulch against my foundation is to soak up the extra water after it rains.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 324 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by mixed feelings After reading some of the reviews which my gut told me not to purchase, but I went ahead and bought 90 bags for spring gardening. I thought those could have been bad batches and the problems fixed in production so future batches/lots would have been corrected. Price was great but again, you get what you pay for. I feel very disappointed because as you see in the picture the red mulch looks great (it is a deep red color) while it is wet inside the bag. After distributing on our yard you can see from the picture that red looks more like brown after 24 hrs. there is a big discoloration difference. Wow did not expect that from Scott, I expected more quality control and a better product. Bag says 12 months guarantee for color, Which one the red or the brownish one i got after 24hrs? I do not blame Home Depot for this, but if I was the procurement manager for Home Depot with the Scottt account, I re-consider. April 10, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Low Quality Control I purchased seven bags yesterday at Home Depot. I've purchased other brands of red mulch there before and never had a problem. I brought them home, emptied the bags around a tree area and started spreading it out. To my surprise, it appears most of the mulch was not colored or colored or mixed during the coloring process. The colors I say ranged from gray to brown to dark red. I thought of Scotts as a company the provided high quality products. I guess I was wrong. In my business, you are judged every day on quality and quality control. It appears there was none here. Disappointed! April 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not a good RED mulch - It's too brown This is marketed as red mulch. It's probably closer to brown mulch than red. I would advise anyone looking for a true red mulch, to go with another brand. It's not a good deal if you are looking for red mulch. I give it a 1 rating since it's not as advertised. I wouldn't recommended it if you are looking for a red mulch, especially if you're trying to match an existing red mulch. April 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Inconsistent color and texture from bag to bag I bought 22 bags from the same pallet. Half were shredded and half were chunky. The chunky ones had a brighter color. It was hard to blend them together in the same area. I tried to blend by spreading some of the chunky kind over the shredded kind, but it still looks like I used 2 different mulches. Also the color is more orange than red. I used Vigaro last year and liked it better. The color was a nicer, deeper red. April 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Nasty Stuff Smells horrible like manure and rotting dead animal. I bought 10 bags and all of them were full of mold, and the color was very inconsistent. I have purchased this in the past and it was great, so it's a pretty big disappointment. April 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Color doesn't match Bought 12 bags at home depot in Riverdale, put down all 12. I needed 10 more bags. I stopped at the Paramus Home depot bought 10 more. The color isn't even close. First batch are red second batch much closer to brown. Very disappointed as I was trying to get them all done before we had a party here and could not do that. I could understand slight variation but not even close. I use to think Scotts were a premium product, I would not recommend this product. If you must buy this, be sure to get all that you need at the same time. I know weight in your vehicle could present a problem with this. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Leon Graham Gardening Associate Very Helpful and Professional The mulch was perfect for my yard. It is beautiful. April 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by pretty impressed I've gotta say, this mulch is pretty good. I bought a few bags from the other guys and it ended up not being enough. So i bought a couple more from HD since they had the black friday spring sale. You can see the difference in quality night and day. The blue guys' mulch had cigarrette buts, screws, and nails that i had to remove as i laid down the mulch. HD had actual wood bark and i even got a nice hint of cedar from a few real wood pieces. Hands down this is good mulch April 8, 2016
