Product Overview

Made from a tough co-polymer that features Lay-Flat technology, the Scotts MaxFLEX garden hose provides excellent kink resistance during use. The material resists kinking as you uncoil the hose and pull it behind you around the yard. The exclusive co-polymer makes the hose 30% lighter than similar hoses. This environment-friendly lead-free hose from our Element line will provide you with years of trouble-free and safe performance. The 100 ft. L also ensures that you will be able to comfortably reach each corner of a large lawn, flower bed or garden. The couplings are made of oversized XL crush-proof aluminum that withstands daily use and trampling by heavy feet or even heavier garden equipment. The couplings easily attach to any spigot and feature our innovative Hose Armour technology to prevent binding at the spigot when pulled. Ideal for use in any climate, the co-polymer material makes the Scotts MaxFLEX hose incredibly tough both inside and outside. Superior scuff resistance on the jacket helps to keep the hose looking its best season after season. The Scotts MaxFLEX hose has burst strength of 500 psi, with heavyweight reinforcement at high pressure areas for extra durability and lifelong performance.

Answer:
Definitely. There is no reason why you can't use this hose on your hose reel. It should perform very well and reduce the probability of kinks when winding or unwinding the hose.

I don't see why not. The material is flexible, so you should be able to wind it up easily. However, realize that it is thicker and heavier than your average hose, so you may need to wind it up with a little extra "oomph."

Here is a photo of it on my reel, which was designed for 175 feet of standard hose. The Scott's MaxFlex 100 foot heavy hose takes up a lot more space, widthwise, but, it fit my reel with room to spare. So, yes, you can use this hose on your hose reel, if it was designed to accept at least 150 feet of standard hose. Read my review for more information, photos, and a video.

Yes you can. There is strain relief at each hose end that will keep it from bending right at the fitting, so you will need a few inches of free space before the hose bends.

Answer:
I have spooled it onto a hose reel. However, I had to feed the entire hose through the level-wind opening as the female connector is too large to fit through the hole. Wind the hose, with water pressure applied as the flexibility of the hose may let it collapse if wound without water pressure.

The manufacturer's website (Swan Products - The Watering Company) indicates they are aluminum. The color is likely due to the anodizing of the aluminum.

If you mean, will it work with a high-pressure washer, let's understand the principles involved.
A hose is a pipe. When a liquid flows thru a pipe [water thru a hose], friction is created between the pipe wall and the liquid; the total friction builds along the length of the pipe [hose]. If there's enough pressure pushing the liquid, the liquid will flow, but some of the pressure is "consumed" in over-coming the friction ... that's called "pressure drop" and is measured in "psi/foot".
When we get to the end of the pipe [hose] after there's been, say 10 psi of pressure drop, there's less pressure to deliver the flow rate then there was at the beginning of the pipe; we say the "flow's restricted". E.g. if water at the house bibb flows @ 4.5 gpm @ 60 psi, at the end of a 200-ft 1/2" hose it might be as little as 2.0 gpm @ 25 psi!
Key to a power washer's performance and the pump's longevity is that it have available to it at all times a minimum flow rate; if you run the pump below this rate, you won't get the flow the pump wants and the pump will run at a higher temperature.
To keep the pressure drop to a minimum you can [a] shorten the hose, [b] increase hose diameter, [c] reduce flow.
When I connect my 20-yr old 4000 psi power washer to the house bibb [4.5 gpm @ 60-65 psi], I only use a 3/4" diameter hose with a maximum length of 100 feet. If I had a 1500 psi washer which needed only 2.5 gpm, I could get by with a 5/8" hose ... but, as a rule, all of my 100' hoses are 3/4". Read Less

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 190 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Hose! You can feel the quality when handling this hose. My valve connection was on the opposite side of the house from where I needed it so I opted for the 100 foot length. It feels very durable and did the job as expected. I really like the water exit area as it is very functional for additional connections. I have used this hose primarily for cleaning down our deck and it feels like I won't need to purchase another hose for a very long time! September 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Original Review Correction - Hose Eaten Over Winter Thought this was a great hose until I put it away for winter brand new in my garden shed. Upon retrieving it in the spring I found the hose extensively eaten by mice. Having owned dozens of garden hoses over decades of use I have never had one attacked. Not sure what material they used to make this but it's seems to be quite tasty. If you live in an area that has any wildlife I would recommend another option unless you want to feed the wildlife your hose yielding a leaking, hole filled one in the spring. August 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best hose for yard I have ever used - no kinks and lays flat! This is the best garden hose I have ever owned. It is also very expensive. It is so easy to uncoil without kinks forming. It uses something called Lay-Flat technology and that is not just an advertising mumbo-jumbo - it is real. As I uncoiled it it did indeed lay flat without kinking or coiling up. The end connectors are stout - the best I have seen. I am really impressed with the fact that it did not kink up. I also acquired a different, cheaper hose which was like struggling with a python to uncoil it. This hose was a no-stress glad-I-have-it product. There ya go. July 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Extra length is useful Replaced my clogged 10 yr old, 50 foot hose, with something long enough to reach my car in my townhome on-street parking. This 100 foot hose makes maneuvering much easier. This hose feels like it is as good as, or maybe even better, quality as my old hose. It's lightweight for the length, and it's flexible but doesn't kink too easily. Allowing it to warm up in the sun helps with kinks. Connects fine with my spout. I probably could have gotten by with a 75 foot but am soon to be moving to a home with a large back yard. Planning ahead, but for now, my car is clean, and my roses and mums are sated! August 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Heavy weight hose that withstands the elements and the punishment you dish out The MaxFLEX hose is guaranteed to be Super Kink Resistant. I rolled it out and only had a small curl in the very end of the hose (see photo). To help reduce the kinks, I put a rod through the center of the coil of hose and rolled it as I walked. This stopped those annoying tangles that occur when you just pull the hose out without unrolling it first. In the sunlight I noticed that the hose has a bright green color with gold flecks and a yellow strip a lot different from most hoses. Unlike other hoses the MaxFLEX hose is Drinking Water Safe, so you can run the hose to any type of dispenser without worrying about chemicals leaching into the water. The 500 PSI rating on the hose means you can leave your hose hooked up and not worry about it bulging or bursting in direct sunlight. The Super Strong Connections are designed so that you can easily hook and unhook the hose and will not deform if stepped on. If you notice that the very end of the roll is kind of curly cue in shape, that is because the hose has some memory that will go away when exposed to direct sunlight. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loooong....Its 100' ! Heavy at 8 pounds; but acceptable for a 100' hose. Appears durable, but only time will tell. The hose bib end is anodized aluminum that is larger than your 'standard hose'. {see picture} That is a good thing! It makes attaching / removing it easier, especially with gloves on. The strain relief is ~ 5" long and works well to prevent kinks at the bib / inlet end. Rolls up well without issue. I make 3' diameter loops, flipped on each wrap. No kink problems. I don't store hoses outside, (the UV in sunlight will degrade / destroy them). August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent strong and well made Finally after years of buying garden hoses and having to replace them every couple of years due to either thin hose pipe or weak connectors, I now have one that at looks and feels as though it will last much longer. The connector that screws to the faucet measures a healthy 1 and a half inches in diameter and that gives a 5/16 from edge of the thread to the outside all the way around and length is just on an inch giving a much better and stronger connection. The pipe itself is very strong and much thicker than ones I have owned before. After unwinding the hose, I left it in a straight line for a couple of hours in the hot sun before connecting to my hose reel before winding it onto the reel I did find this absolutely ideal for future rewinding and as I do find that the hose pipe retains its structure after its `sunbathing` for a couple of hours before the first time it was put onto the reel. There were no leaks at all despite the faucet being left on all day without using the spray nozzle attachment (not supplied) Kinking is nonexistent. I do believe that this hose pipe is one of the better ones on the market if not the best and is definitely worth the extra few pennies. July 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Best Hose for Vegetable Gardens I planted my vegetable garden at the back of my yard so it would get the best sun possible, but needed a very long and reliable hose to water it. This hose is the BEST for organic gardening. Both the hose and the couplings are lead free and approved as food safe. The hose also contains a compound that inhibits the growth of bacteria and mold. Both of these things are very important to organic gardening. It also saves time and effort because you will not have to use a watering can. Extremely Kink Resistant at Spigot: I have this hose hooked up to a hose cart. My previous hose was extremely kinked up at the spigot because of how the hose cart wound up the hose tightly. Check out my comparison picture of this hose hooked up and my previous kinked hose. The maxflex hose has a reinforced collared section at the spigot to prevent this kinking. I was very impressed with this. After unwinding the hose from its packaging and laying the hose flat in the sun all day, the hose relaxed and was extremely flexible. I was not able to kink it up at all. August 2, 2016
