We are getting ready to put our house on the market so we wanted to fix up some bare spots in the lawn. My husband wanted to do soil testing and then seed but I bought the PatchMaster instead. His response was, "Oh, the PatchMaster". He didn't have high hopes for this product as he said he has used it in the past and it didn't work. It's been about 9 days now and we were about to give up. But upon closer review, there are little sprouts coming through the "mulch". When you lift up the layer of paper, there is tons of new grass underneath! How exciting is that! It seems that the most popular complaint is the shredded newspaper. I don't mind it. I was a little concerned that I needed to remove it but after reading these reviews it seems that with time it will be gone. I'm so excited for my new lawn!! I would definitely buy this product again!

I am always doubtful about grass seed...the promises have rarely come through for me. However, I am in the process of selling my house so I needed to patch the lawn where my kids' basketball goal and trampoline had killed all the grass. I saw PatchMaster and thought 'why not?'. First of all, I've seen reviews about how bad the newspaper mulch looks, but I appreciate the recycled paper being used as mulch. Thumbs up on being earth conscientious, Scotts! My husband was doubtful and really thought we were going to need to sod, but he humored me. Once I spread the product out on the bare ground, it did look like a newspaper had exploded, but that vanished over a few weeks as grass grew in. Now, after only a few weeks, my lawn has no bare spots and the grass is green and full. I would highly recommend this product!

When I first put the product on my lawn it looked really messy, but the end result was great. My bare spots are now filling in. Product started working in 7 day just like it said.

Product is easy to spread but hard to keep dorm even when watering accordingly. I've had better luck with regular seed and soil on multiple occasions.

Please save yourself the money and don't buy this stuff. Even if its free don't waste your time. I followed the directions and nothing all I have to show for it is patches of mulch that looks like garbage.

I wish I had read some reviews before buying this stuff. I spotted it at Lowe's and it seemed like just the ticket. I've used quite a few Scott's lawn products before -- but this stuff PatchMaster, more like PatchMessMaker. Yek. Looks like someone just shredded up some old paperwork and dumped it on the lawn. There ARE some green shoots sprouting up in the bare spot but the birds seem to zero in on this stuff and spent days eating all the seeds.
I don't get it. It's an almighty mess on my lawn now and I don't know how the zillion scraps of waste paper are going to degrade into the soil. This could take years...

Great idea on this product. It's recycled paper, fertilizer, and seed. The problem is that the paper does not disintegrate and thus suffocates the seed (and any grass already there). I had a 2x3 patch of grass I wanted make thicker. After using this product the entire area is now bare dirt. Back to the hard way... Prepare the dirt, seed, fertilize, and water. If I had just done that patch would be thick green instead of brown right now. Never again.

Followed directions accordingly and did not work. This was a waste of time and money. Now I have to spend more time by cleaning up the tiny pieces of newspaper in my yard. Thanks scotts!
