Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Minty1 Poor Quality - worse than my usual cheaper bags
My usual top soil was out of stock at HD, and as I needed some that day, I thought I would spend a little extra for 'Premium' quality from Scotts.
What a disappointment. The soil was full of stuff other than soil. A lot of rubbish, including plastic, wood and stones.
There was far more twigs than I've seen before. I know that may be the 'organic' mater, but there's just too much of it.
Also, the soil was clumped together really hard, so it took 5 minutes per bag to get it nice and smooth.
I wish I had not spent the extra 20c per bag!

This is the worst product ever! Warning!!! DO NOT BUY. You will be disappointed. I found the following items in just one bag: Glass, plastic tubing, pieces of plastic bags, sticks, stones, electrical wire, lots and lots of wood (mulch).
If these reviews aren't enough to scare you into buying something else, go to Scotts website for many more explaining this poor quality product.
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED

Not topsoil at all. This is junk. Bag contains bark chips, and coloration. Any dirt at all was dyed. White sand only. Water or rain brought out the true white sand color.

To be fair, I would have been fine with this being so loaded with sticks and rocks since its only $2-something a bag. But it was also full of trash. Plastic bag bits, a few small sharp hard bits, and one piece of sharp glass, like from a broken bottle. I bought this to put in my turtle house and had to spend a half an hour breaking up the clumps and picking trash out of it. Seriously I wasn't expecting a lot, but I was even more disappointed just now when I scrolled down to reveiw and saw in the description it says "free of sticks and rocks". No. This is like 30% sticks and rocks and two handfulls of trash bits. Definitely will not buy again. Though I suppose its a decent deal if you just need to fill a hole in your yard and don't plan on running through it barefoot.

Hardly premium topsoil; more like mulch than topsoil. Filled low areas in the yard with mixture of this topsoil and good quality grass seed and very little grass seed germinated.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Writeon This stuff is just fine to use, as advertised.
I don't get the trolling about this product other than there must be a lot of rookies out there who think they're going to get the highest grade of top soil for $2.09/bag. This stuff works just fine for filling-in low spots, holes or doing some general top-dressing to smaller yard areas. Would I build my entire yard out of it? - no; but, that isn't what it's made for. Insofar as the "sticks" and other material some have commented about, there are very few. I do what you should always do when using any top soil - I "sift" it through a 1/2" square 4'X4' metal screen. The sticks or anything else that remain after sifting were not more than a cup full. This soil was easy to work with and did a great job.

I bought a few bags of this to patch some thin spots on my lawn. It was pure clay. Light gray in color, and I could squeeze a handful of it into a ball and through it across the yard without it breaking. After I opened it, I noticed that the fine print on the bag states that it makes no claim to be "usable as a growing medium". Really? How can you call it top soil then? Call it "fill". Waste of time and money. That's enough reason for me to stop using ALL Scotts products, including the fertilizer Ive always used
