I bought a few dozen bags of this topsoil last Spring to cover up an area where a big pin oak tree was cut down. The heavy equipment to cut down the tree and grind the stump did a number on the surrounding grass and the entire area needed topsoil and seed. I spread this topsoil around seeded with Pennington grass seed. I am extremely pleased with how the grass popped up and filled in...which is a credit to the quality of the topsoil. In the photo, the entire area shown was covered with Scotts topsoil and reseeded.

I wouldn't be surprised if this came out of a landfill. You can't even call it "Soil" - it's Mulch. Purchased more than 20 bags and regret it. Scotts needs to fix or remove this product line because i really question the quality of ALL of their products given how awful this is and the fact that they put the word "Premium" on it.

Never have gotten anything but good soil out of each bag. All my plants have been growing fine with this soil. I tried the water saver type and they didn't like that. I use this for my potted plants too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissatisfied This is the worst top soul I have ever bought. It seems as though it is nothing but ground mulch. No soil in it at all. I will NEVER buy it again. The Wal-Mart brand costs less and is a much better product. This stuff blows completely away in a stiff wind. Very dissatisfied.

I have bought this product for years, using it to make my own potting soil. It has been great in the past, but this year, I'm finding lots of chunks of bark and hard wood product that I can't use. Not sure why this changed, but the quality is definitely lower now.

I purchased 6 bags of Scotts Premium Topsoil and received 6 bags of fine pine mulch. I was planning on using the product to fill an area where a stump is ground and then a covering for new grass seed. This soil was suppose to help with grass germination not compete with the nitrogen like the original stump grindings that I removed. The product inside looks absolutely nothing like the photograph on the bag. The labels of "topsoil" and "premium" is completely misleading. I would not buy it again and will attempt to get my money back through the no quibble guarantee, which I see online that Scotts seems to have problems honoring.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It's basically wood mulch It's sad that HD and Scotts sell this. This "soil" is just wood mulch mixed with sand and dark die to make it look "rich". Now my lawn is covered in a thin layer of wood chips and I'm worried it will smother my grass or not let my new seed germinate. Definitely won't buy again. What a joke. Too bad this isn't regulated somehow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Many Rocks in Soil - Who needs this?? This is not PREMIUM. Save your self the headache, just go buy the cheaper topsoil. You will be happier. The soil is ok. You have the usual garbage, small pieces of plastic, bark, etc. However, after putting it down and seeding, I notice a large number of rocks, about 1 inch in size. This obviously is not a good thing, and I never had so many rocks with other brands. See attached photo.
