grass

ok I have spots in my yard that don't have no grass in spots what will I need to buy to restore my grass
Asked by: chelle
Spots can be a nuisance when tending to your lawn. We believe Scotts Patchmaster Tall Fescue Mix can assist you in repairing your bare spots. Some tips to remember when applying this product are, that you should choose an area in full or partial sun. Remove debris such as rocks or roots. Prepare the soil. Loosen the soil to a depth of 2 - 4 inches. A spade or garden rake can assist you well in doing this. Soil particles from pea to marble size are ideal for planting grass seed. Next spread the seed 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick on top of the soil you loosened. Do not apply more than 1/2 inch of Patchmaster, also do not mix into the soil or cover the Patchmaster with soil. Lastly water thoroughly using a light spray until the mulch is saturated. Keep the top 1/2 inch moist by watering twice each day for 2 weeks after planting, until seed germination is seen. Continue to water for at least 2 weeks to help the seedlings become established. Once established, water as needed. If you have any questions or would like further assistance, please contact us at 877-220-3089 and one of our representatives would be glad to assist you.

Can this be used in place of top soil?

Can this be used in place of top soil?
Asked by: Patrick
Starter Fertilizer would not be a suitable replacement for Top soil. Top soils do not contain fertilizer, but can be used along with the Starter Fertilizer for new grass seeding. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our phone number is 877-220-3089 and we ask that you please refer to your review when calling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PRODUCT SAVED OUR NEW SOD We are first time home owners with lawn irrigation and after our initial sod was laid we started having issues with the lawn dying. Not from overwatering, just bad sod. We decided to try Scotts for the first time and at first felt like the product wasn't working and second guessed our decision. Fortunately I changed the watering to evening and withing a week our yard was looking fantastic. Another week later it was even better. Very very happy with this product. Our lawn is the greenest green. Just used the Wintermix, and hoping for similar results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for seeding or giving ur lawn a boost I used this when planting seed last year on new topsoil. New seed come up fast and grass grows 2 times faster this year then the rest of the lawn. I was planting some bare spots this year and had some of this starter fertlizer left over so I tried it In a few troubled areas. The grass grows twice as fast in those spots. Not as green as the rest but taller. This is all on clay that is difficult to grow things on. I am gonna try mixing this, Max green, and reg turf builder next feeding. If u want ur lawn to grow fast then this ur stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for New Grass I just had my yard hydro-seeded recently. My yard consisted mostly of clay so I brought in some nutrient rich top soil which was spread around the yard 2-3" deep. After the grass began to germinate and grow, it was obvious that in certain areas the dirt was not spread evenly. The grass was growing slower in those areas (still healthy just slow in comparison to the rest of the yard). So at week 7 of our hydro-seeded lawn I used 'Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food for New Grass' to help advance these slow growing areas. I followed the instructions on the bag and spread it with a Scotts spreader set to my area. This product work fantastic! We are approaching week 9 and I can see significant growth happening in the slower areas as well as a rich thick grass in all other areas. I plan on using the Starter again in 4 weeks to continue this pattern of growth and build a solid root system for our new fescue grass.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely disappointed I used the starter fertilizer and landscapers mix, some of the seed came up (not even 50%). The new grass turned yellow at root and died after approx 2 wks. I have a lot of time and money in my lawn. I have always used Scott's and never had a problem until this year. Now we are going into 90 degree weather and it's not the ideal time to plant new seed but I have no choice.
