I replaced the loose rocks around my front flowerbed with stone edges. After the project was nearly finished, I placed this soil along the front of the edgers so they would sit firmly and to allow the grass to grow up to the edgers. This soil seems decent quality but the picture I included shows it best. Inside the flowerbed is brown mulch. This lawn soil which is in front of the edgers looks just like the brown mulch but with smaller pieces. It worked fine for my project but I would not want to use this with seeds or sod.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by tvs75 Great For New Lawns
This product is well worth whatever price you pay. I used it as a new lawn covering for seeding. It worked great. I was able to spread each bag at a ratio of about seven by seven feet at about a quarter inch thick. Some of the sacks I purchased did have more clay in it than other bags did. But overall, I was impressed with the way it kept the moisture. It allowed me to only have to water the new lawn once a day until fully seeded. The bag itself if very durable too and can be tossed around the yard without ripping. That was a plus too!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by tdooley Perfect for southern Illinois
I use a Midwestern Mix from Scotts in the northern half of Illinois. Also, such Mix has been effective for me in southern Wisconsin. Should you choose the Mid Mix in southern Illinois, please use this product (Lawn Soil) with the grass seed. The climate has been brutal in the southern half of IL, IN, and Missouri in my experiences. So applying both of these products together will get you a better lawn. However, I would not use too much of this with a KY mix, unless you want to experiment first. Thanks!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0Â by Dokies1089 This product is GARBAGE, literally...
I purchased 25 bags of this to help re-seed a damaged lawn. I dumped the bags in small piles around the yard to make it easier to rake into the existing grass. When i began to rake it out i noticed a few pieces of trash. No big deal, right? Well, i ended up spending more time picking out candy wrappers, aluminum can, brick chunks, and any other pieces of debris you can think of. All in all i ended up with about one full bag of trash in my small 600 sq ft yard. Not to mention there was large chunks of wood in the soil also. I had higher expectations of the Scotts brand which they clearly failed to meet.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Great start to a new lawn
I've used this product before to start a new area of lawn after some construction work. It worked great and was excited to use it again this fall when I used it in conjunction with reseeding my lawn. Scott's instructions are to spread it out evenly throughout the yard but I found this difficult to do, as there were many clumps when I tried to distribute the soil over my lawn. Does anyone have tips for help with this step for next year?
