Answer:
I would purchase a soil pH testing kit to first determine what your yard will need. They are inexpensive and the proper pH of your soil will get your yard started off right and healthy! So depending on the current pH, you may need lime.

Answer:
Lime does not affect seed germination, and can be used anytime before or after seeding. We only suggest using lime if a soil test has determined that you need to raise your soil pH level.

Answer:
I believe this grass is more suitable for mild to moderate hot; however, with proper watering it will survive fine in high heat. This grass can be used in both sun and shade and is year round.

Turf Builder 20 lb. Tall Fescue Mix Grass Seed is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 178.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ver y good I used this seed in an area where I don't get much sun. This area is prone to getting moss. I raked it out, and added the seed, watered and so far so good. If the grass thickens up and is shade tolerant enough it should end my moss issues. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not amazing Not the greatest and should be the highest quality! Did not work great in very sunny areas. Much better in shaded areas.

Should have been perfect Fall temperatures for new grass, but this is Kansas and things change fast. Within three days of planting temp got up in the 90's then two nights later low was 35. And we never got rain that was in the forecast multiple times. I just keep watering the yard by hand until the new grass started showing then switched to sprinkler. On the hot days watered before work, at lunch, after work and before bed. On cold nights stopped watering before sunset, so the water was soaked before it got cold. I think the WaterSmart PLUS coating helped protected the seeds from the weather issues.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good features Although the product has good features it did not perform well for me. I have an area that is not in full shade but has not done well even with sun/shade grasses. The ground seems to be dead to grow things including weeds. This product sprouted but came up extremely thin considering the amount of seed I put down. The ground is not hard but could be a little less compact. NOTHING I have planted in this one area has done any good. It obviously is not the product but the place. Grass is growing everywhere else. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The watersmart coating helped to germinate the grass seed quicker. I had two problem areas to deal with. Bare spots and thin grass coverage. I applied this product to both areas at the same time. I loosened the soil on bare areas and then applied the grass seed. With over seeding I applied the product as per directions on bag. Watering was done according to directions on bag. I saw growth in about 8-10 days. Grass came up very nice and full, with lush green color. Product was easy to use and I will use it again to repair bare spots in my lawn. Try it you will like it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast growing grass seed Less than two weeks ago I attacked several bare spots that cropped up in my lawn this year. As evidenced by the photo, I have gotten great results in a short period of time. Luckily, the SE portion of Michigan has gotten its fair share of rain in the past week so I have not had to water separately. The seed still has a ways to go, but I am very pleased by what has taken hold already in less than two weeks. This is a great product - I will definitely continue to use Scotts' grass seed in the future. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too early to rate, just planted, but... I had some extra prep work I wanted to do before seeding, and just finished seeding yesterday (Sept 28th). Today I was e-mailed to post a review - so a true grass followup is needed. What I can say is that the blue colored coating on the seeds were helpful to see & control the coverage while I hand seeded. This coating is also supposed to have benefits for moisture retention, fertilizer, and disease prevention. We shall see if it grows. Here's a couple pictures of the area I'm working. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seed germinated quickly due to ideal weather conditions Application instructions were easy to follow. Germination rate followed the time scale on bag. Grasslings are now sprouting. My only concern: Humid and hot dry conditions in the southern NJ area occur in July and August, so actually testing the durability of this seed will not occur until next summer 2017. Heat, drought and disease are prevalent here and I look forward to seeing if this product holds up over the winter into next summer. So far so good, but stay tuned.
