Customer Reviews

Turf Builder 3 lb. Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great We bought our house a year ago and the grass was awful. Most of our yard is shaded by mature trees. I reseeded part of the backyard with dense shade mix to see how it would do. I sprayed the yard, waited a week, raked out the dead weeds, and then put down seed and starter fertilizer. I put the seed down later in the fall than I would've liked but it came in. I put some winterguard down before it got really cold and then waited until spring. I've been following the Scott's feeding schedule and I've got lush green grass in that area now. My only criticism is that 7lbs is the largest size bag they sell of dense shade mix.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great in my heavily shaded lawn. Had a rough winter this year and I have two very large dogs who tore up the lawn. Took those two problems as an excuse to patch/re-seed my lawn. Front and rear lawn are covered by trees of varying densities and see sunlight steadily for just a few hours a day. Applied dense-shade mix as instructed after aerating and applying compost layer to lawn. I then fertilized with SCOTTS lawn-starter fertilizer. New seedlings started to appear after 2 weeks and everything looks fantastic now as I enter week 6 of project. Lawn is lush and green and looks like a carpet. PRO TIP: Water every day. EVERY DAY. No excuses. You will see much better results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wisconsin I live in southeastern Wisconsin. I applied early this spring. I went over my back yard with a dethatcher first, then applied this grass seed and applied topsoil over some of the completely bare spots. My back yard is almost completely filled in now with thriving grass. It's very shady back there, so I'm surprised it worked but it did. Very nice grass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best brand ever I tried other types and this one actually works for me. The shady area of my yard was basically dirt and moss, but now after applying these seeds according to the instructions. I have beautiful grass growing as of two weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the price This Dense Shade mix is the only grass seed that we have had success with. Our yard is surrounded by large pine and oak trees and the lawn has slowly deteriorated over time. One application of the Dense Shade mix and some starter fertilizer brought new life to our lawn! I would recommend this to anyone who has a lot of shade and maybe not-so perfect soil. Works the first time!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spotty Results Planted in the spring and followed the directions and the results were disappointing. I have a densely shaded area and the grass didn't produce except in a few small areas. I have used Scott products all my life but this didn't live up to the expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for shade This works great! couldn't find a seed that would grow in our back yard lots of trees, planted this and it looks amazing, we have had several compliments on the yard.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix AFter 2 weeks of applying the grass seed, there is no sign of any grass growing. It was watered once daily with temps in the 60-70's, seed was visible all over the first week but now only visible in some areas and no sign of grass growing. The ground was worked as direacted with soil added thinly over the area under the 2 maple trees. I was so looking forward to having grass in the front yard where it was bare; not sure what the problem is, or if another application of seed would grow. Lot #14020161 used in MN.
