The seed was bagged with wood chips (maybe for protection?) but it didn't work. The wood chips smothered the grass as it started to grow and formed a solid cover over the grass. I had to peel the wood chips up and still there is no grass. Just a large brown circle on my lawn. Very disappointed. Won't use this product again.

I'm very disappointed with this product. I've had good luck with Scott fertilizer products but this seed product didn't live up to any of it's promises.
We bought two bags to deal with bare spots in our lawn. We worked the soil, spread the seed, and added the thin covering they said to add. We watered daily - and paid a lot of attention to the lawn for the first few weeks.
We're lucky if 10% of the seed sprouted. Even with that, most of that grass died over the next few weeks.
Not sure what the issue was, but we are very unhappy.
When I check the reviews, others said similar things. We should have listened to what they said.
Sorry Scotts. I think you finally came up with a bum product.

After our lawn was ripped up for some sump pump work, the contractor seeded the area. It was so spotty that I decided to reseed with Scotts turf builder sun and shade mix. The results were far superior to what the contractor was using. In both cases, I was watering regularly.
The Scotts seed that I purchased also had a rebate which made it a great value.
Love that I'm not getting lots of weeds coming up with the grass seed.

This Spring I planted a new section of lawn and used a grass seed from another company. I have always used Scotts seed in the past and it has always worked well. This time I thought I would try something new. I planted the âother seedâ and it took weeks to germinate and only a small percent of the seeds actually did. I bought a bag of the Scotts Sun and Shade seed and it germinated fully within a few days and already looks great. Lesson learned â Iâm going to stick with Scotts.

I used this to patch a small area on a hill. The weather was particularly hot and dry and I was only able to water briefly in the evening. Nonetheless, the seed took and, within 10 days, was solidly established. This was a little more expensive but, unlike the cheaper brands, did not turn out to be a waste of money.
