Customer Questions & Answers

What is the purpose of the weed control of this product?

I'm having trouble coming to the conclusion when to use this product. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. It says apply in Fall/Winter...I assume that this product should be used right before winter sets in. So, am I right to assume that the weed control will become relevant after the winter is over and spring comes around? Thanks
Asked by: Mike
It helps control Broadleaf Weeds. In some cases, year round management is needed.

Will this eliminate crab grass?

Turf Builder WinterGuard Weed & Feed is a broadleaf weed killer. It will not control any grassy weeds such as crabgrass.

Does this help prevent crabgrass?

Asked by: Linda
It can help but extensive Crabgrass Issues should be managed using Scotts Halts or a fertilizer Plus Halts added. I go for Crabgrass in early Spring primarily as it's a pre emergent fertilizer plus Herbicide, and 6-8 weeks later, I decide whether to use Scotts Plus 2 (for Broadleaf Weeds) or just use Scott's Turfbuilder (No weed control).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Prepare your lawn for Winter! winter guard with weed & feed gets your lawn looking great and healthy while preparing it for the winter season. I prefer Scoots fertilizers as the product(NPK) is all in 1. Your lawn gets even distribution and even growth. Great product! Take care of your lawn with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter is over My Lawn is Excellent I liked the early results in December. But when the spring came the lawn looks like a painting its outrageously thick and green like a Crayola crayon throughout. Minimum weeds and coincidently no ants, yet my neighbors both called in exterminators (results from using summerguard twice July and August). The results from using Scotts products, correctly, are well worth the effort and investment. Apply and sit back and watch the grass grow!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved my lawn I had a brand new lawn installed when I moved into my house 5 years ago and it was beautiful. In the coming years the lawn deteriorated into a weed patch. I tried many products and nothing worked to revive the lawn. I was on the verge of replacing it with artificial turf but decided to try this product in the Fall in hopes of finally having a decent lawn in the Spring. Well, at least where the grass outnumbered the weeds any way. When Spring came I couldn't believe how green and lush my lawn was. It looked even better than when it was first installed. This photo was taken at the beginning of April 2015. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have been using Scott's for two seasons with professional results. I have done Scott's for two seasons now. I apply winterguard in early fall, then again 6-8 weeks later. I have the greenest lawn in the neighborhood still. I do the spring weed and feed as soon as it stops risking frost. In June I will apply an application of Summer guard with water smart followed by another application in August. I often get comments about how green my lawn is. I have had minimal burning just when my application overlapped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Winter coverage. I love this product, used it before the Temps got cold, but my lawn thickened up and stayed green into November and until the snow came. Looking forward to see how it did over winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from solves the weed problems When I used this the first time I was hoping for some results better than what I had been using, anything better. But I was so happy with the results, I used it again this fall. Not only does it give the grass a good start before spring, I don't have to worry about weeds making it over the winter. I am very happy with the product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

There is a Sticking Agent that must be activated so that the weed killer will stay attached while it does its job. Grass is usually wet in the mornings this time of year, so that isn't a problem. The greening is not as intense as in the Spring or Summer, but it shouldn't be! The last thing you want is grass actively growing when First Frost arrives! What it does do besides kill weeds, is grow the roots over the winter and strengthen the Underground System. Then, in the spring, you are ready to kick in the good stuff (Scotts) and enjoy your healthy and green lawn! Oh yeah, I've tried the no name brands many times over the years. They may even have the same numbers (Nitrogen, Potash, And Phosphate), but something is always amiss,a like the sticking agent, or whatever. If you are going to do the work, and can't take corrective steps, for 6-8 weeks afterward, it's better to pay the money and work with a Quality Product! You get what you pay for and 35 years of home ownership later, Scotts is by far the best!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from for easy tracking of application I discovered something very helpful this morning, applying early morning with dew on the grass leaves an vary nice mark where I just passed, so I can line up for a more accurate run on the next application. Ron
