Please tell me the specific seed types included in the EZ mix.

I believe it is important to know type of seeds, by percentage. Let me know. Thank you. Juli E

Is this safe to use around animals?

I have 2 cats and a dog that run through the yard pretty regularly. Keeping them inside doesn't work very well. Will this be safe for them?
Asked by: lawnlover
Under helpful tips it states "to keep kids, pets, foot traffic and lawn mowers off the newly planted seedlings until the grass is 3 inches high". I have 3 Bichons who go out a lot and since I have spots throughout the back yard (although they are not as bad looking, I guess, as it sounds) so it would be very difficult to somehow rope off all those areas. The grass has grown just fine even with them running in the yard so it does not seem to have been a problem. I did not mow in the bigger areas but it really did seem to come up quickly. Despite the grub issue now that the grass has filled in for all the spaces it does not look any different from the rest of the yard which is mostly bluegrass. I will use it again in spring to fill in any areas from winter. In fact I have researched some issues and it has been stated that even this time of year one can put down grass seed; it will not grow but with the snow it will insulate the seed and keep it good until spring and get a head start on the growing process. I have tried it this year (couple weeks ago) and so nothing is growing but it is keeping moist.

Is it ok to plant in Jan.?

Asked by: Russ
The best time to plant Scotts EZ Seed Sun & Shade is in early fall between August 20 and September 20. This time frame corresponds with nature in that naturally grass seeds ripen and fall to the ground in late summer and germinate as the nights get cooler and the soil is still warm from the summer sun. In most areas seeding around Labor Day is ideal since this will give the new grass at least a month of good growing conditions to become established. Seed should be planted a minimum of 30 days prior to the anticipated first hard frost in the area. This should provide enough warm weather to allow for germination and establishment prior to the ground freezing. The seeds will germinate when the air temperature is consistently 60-85 degrees this means the soil temperature consistently 55- 60 degrees. When temperatures fall below 40 the soil starts to cool down and seed will not germinate. If you have any additional questions, contact us at 877-220-3089.

Turf Builder EZ 10 lb. Sun and Shade Grass Seed Mix is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 920.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well. Already planted some of both after trip back from New England . Growing well and looks good. Had natural rainfall to keep seed wet and temp will top off today around mid 70 ! Planted two ways and both doing great ! Scratched lose the soil ,planted, then covered ever so lightly with seasoned three year old mulch. #2 Didn’t do any prep AT ALL ,planted seed on bare earth, added some mulch ( good stuff ) and Voila ,Green grass. Still have some samples of both and will go at it again when the days get longer . Regards, Kelly [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Let it do the work.. My personal experience with Scott EZ Seed was amazing..I recently was going on vacation for 10 day and I looked at the forecast which called for Temps in the mid 70's and occasionaL rain so I thought what the heck I'll try it . I prepare the spots on my blvd( which i'v had terrible luck growing grass in the past) I figured it would take care of it self Hopefully with the proper amount of rain. When I returned WALLAH!! the grass was about 2 inched high and all the bare spots were filled in! Very Happy usually when I plant grass I'm checking it everyday..Now I figure let it do its job and watch the watering! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Results i used the EZ Seed for several bare spots in both my front and backyard. Some of the areas were in direct sun while a few were mostly shaded. I had tried last year to use seed and my results were not very successful. EZ Seed has worked beyond my expectations! I now have grass growing everywhere I used this product. Very easy to use. I just loosened the soil, sprinkled the EZ Seed mixture, and consistently watered the areas for about a week or so. It took very little time and effort ( which I loved), and soon I saw excellent results. Great product for those troubled lawn areas. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keep it moist! This product packaging is very well designed. The dispenser head is especially good at an even flow of material. I first used the product on an established lawn bare spot. It took a week to see any growth but part of the problem was i was unavailable to keep it moist throughout the day. Then the tree stump remover guy came and took out two stumps. I had ideal top soil conditions and very well timed rain storms that were soft rains, not downpours. This was the cats meow! Strong growth is up and continuing, there is no over seeding or bare spots. So, with the right amount of water and care, this product is great. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scotts EZ seed I had multiple bare spots in my lawn that required reseeding. Although it was late fall, our whether in WI has been unseasonably warm. I decided to give the grass seed a try. Although it took a little longer for the seed to sprout, due to cool nights, the grass did begin growing and all bare spots have completely filled in. I can't wait until spring to see how nice my lawn looks now that it is filled in. The ease-of-use and the water retention factor of this product really makes it simple to use, with great results. Thanks Scotts for your wonderful products! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy & fast seeding Although I got an e-mail stating to wait until spring to use & review. However, in Michigan we've had exceptionaly warm weather so I decided to try Scotts EZ Seed Sun & Shade in a few areas around my house. As it was quite warm the seed grew fairly fast and repaired the bare spots in my lawn. I'm am pleased with the results and will use the rest in the spring time as the e-mail requested. If it works that good now it should be even better in the spring. Thank you for the opportunity to be able to try this fast & easy seed! I was impressed.
