Answer:
No magic words, Jerry. It takes a thin application (about 1/16" to 1/8") temperatures between 60-80 degrees and consistent watering. We'll be glad to discuss your application, use the following link to contact us directly. http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't work Bought 80# worth to fix patches in lawn that were killed by Bayer Weed Killer (weeds are growing again so assuming the poison is gone throughout the areas - also this "Weed only" killer is supposed to be safe for grass but killed EVERYTHING). NOTHING grew (note: the grass in the center of the photo is some of our old grass). Planted Labor Day weekend (supposedly "prime time" to plant new grass seed). Still no results beginning of December (we had a warm fall). December 1, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Full of promises, short on delivery I followed the directions, watered when necessary and yet after 3 weeks maybe 4, just a few baby grass sprouted. What a disappointment. Imagine a hair product that promises a full head of hair, and instead not even enough for a side comb. May 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by wow I basically just threw this into the ground on my bare spots and in a matter of a couple days could see the grass start sprouting up. Being it's new grass, I have my sprinklers set to water twice a day, at 6;30 AM and again at 5:30 PM. I've tried other stuff and it was pretty weak. This stuff has been great. When it gets wet, the stuff in it expands like 3 times it's size. You can see the new nice thick green spots where I placed this stuff. The only Negatives I have is it doesn't go as far as I'd like for the size of the bag, and the cost is high per bag!!! I'm now working on my back lawn, getting the sprinklers re-located and repaired, whatever needs to be done, and my shed built, That needs to be done and then I'm going to have to get at least 2 bags of this stuff, maybe 3 or 4. That's a lot of money for not a large lawn. It also seems to be the same price no matter where you buy this stuff at. Still, I don't have to do much in the way of Prep before spreading it out and it grows fast and looks great. It's nice and green and thick. it stands out from the rest of my front lawn, which a lot of it is really weeds! I'm hoping this new grass will slowly fill into the rest of the lawn over time and snuffing out the weeds. I've only lived at my new house for 6 months. It went from a bad dead lawn with broken sprinklers to a green weed/grass lawn. I've have the best luck using this stuff over just throwing plain seed down or the other combo stuff. This stuff has been far better then anything else. Make sure you water the new grass twice a day!!! My systems is setup to water twice a day and depending on the Temp, etc will adjust amount of time it's watered. hotter out the more it waters, cooler out the less it's watered and if it rains, it won't water at all. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't waste your time or money I did the comparison of the Scott's product and penningtons. After a month the Scott's is still a bare patch the Pennington has to be mowed this week. I have used the Scott's in the past with the same results. Since the fertilizers are top notch and the big box store had both products next to each other, I thought I would give the Scott's another try. The area where I used the Pennington may be the thickest on my yard . The Scott's area barley has a hint of new growth. By the way I watered daily and we are in the middle of a short heat wave in NY. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Pictures Don't Lie - Do Not Buy The photo shows the results of following the directions on the bag. This is what I have after three weeks. June 25, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by CRABGRASS after all of that WORK I am terribly disappointed in this product! My husband and I spent hours tilling our lawn, raking, apply this seed and watering religiously for weeks... to only grow CRABGRASS! July 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Did not work as advertised This is advertised as grows anywhere guaranteed, well I can say that is not true. In our yard we have a long strip of lawn that gets only a few hours of sunlight a day. I prepared everything just as I should and watered the lawn everyday and after 2 weeks nothing. There was little strands of grass in very few spots but nothing like it should have been. I ended up having to totally redo that part of the yard and started over with another seed from Pennington and the grass finally grew as it should have in the first place. I would not recommend this product because it does not grow anywhere as it states. I waste money on 2 big bags of this for nothing and lost 3 weeks of using my yard. Do not use. May 30, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mixed results: Fast, thick growth but PLENTY of weeds I used it at separate times on two large patches of lawn that have been bare for 2 seasons. I loosened the top soil and applied the seeds, adding water every few days. THE GOOD: Both times, the 8th day was magical: in the morning I could see tiny bits of grass sprouting which really multiplied dramatically that day, by evening there was grass growing everywhere. It took about 3 weeks for it to become really thick. THE BAD: This grass grows much faster than any I've seen before, so now 1/3 of my lawn has to be mowed at least twice as often as the rest. What really bothers me is that there are an awful lot of weeds, many of types that I've never seen before. I am disappointed. June 25, 2015
