2nd request!!! I found the top peice in white! I'm trying to find this base in WHITE!!!

What is white base ####
Asked by: nancy
The base is the part you screw into your framing and to which you attach your screen. The color should not matter as it will be covered by the snap-on trim. I am almost certain the base is only available in black as it will be covered by the trim pieces that come in three colors (white, almond and brown).

Is the cover strip paintable?

Asked by: Max
It comes in three colors, I think. White, Almond and Brown. There may be a paint that will stick, but I doubt it. It is a vinyl material. I have accidentally hit mine with paint when touching up our porch, and latex paint comes right off.

Will this work with Saint-Gobain ADFORS 48 in. x 84 in. Charcoal Pet Resistant Insect Screen?? The screening is a lot thicker and it's not made out of fiberglass or aluminum its something else, but cant remember exactly what. What kinda of spline would this even work with?
Asked by: Bri
I am sure it will work and you will just need to select the right size spline. I recommend you take a couple of inches of your screen with you to Home Depot and see which size spline will work best. I am guessing you will need to drop down to .140 or maybe .120.

I am using the 1.5" base and cover strip for my porch. My porch has two openings, and both are arched, which I had framed to follow the arches; they make the the porch beautiful. BUT, I cannot figure out how to screen the arches. They are in 3 sections, or panels. Is there any way to use the base strips for the spline. The strips won't bend, and the only way I can think of is to rout a groove, following the line of the arch. Help, PLEASE!!

Product works as advertises, but I did drop down one size to .140 for the spline with metal screen. The recommended size (.160) was just too difficult to push into the groove. I used both the 1.5 inch and 3.5 inch sizes of base strip which fit perfectly on 2x4 dimensions. To cut, I used what I would call snips with the razor blade in them. Not sure what they are called. That really speeds things along. Having the blade cut the channel side first makes the cleanest cuts. I have used a chop saw before with the blade installed backwards, and it works, but takes much more time compared to the "snips." And as I know eventually a screen will get damaged, you can easily remove the trim cap, pull the screen off and replace it. It is a nice design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm lovin' this system This system is really as easy to use at it says, and our resulting porch looks very good and functions well. This is good for a DIY project. Pushing in the screen with the spline takes quite a bit of hand strength, and working high up on a ladder (if necessary for your project) can be a challenge, though. Hints on additional tools for this job: --Lath screws work well for attaching the base to wood framework--flat enough not to interfere with the trim and wide enough for good contact on either side of the pre-drilled holes. --To make the project go faster, it would be helpful to have 2 drills--one with a screwdriver bit and another with a drill bit to add a few holes for screws at the ends of cut strips. --A small, flat pry bar is handy to start pulling up sections of the trim. --A good quality anvil pruner cuts the base and trim well. Just be sure to straighten any little crushed sections of spline channel or the pieces of the trim that lock it to the base after cutting. --A pair of diagonal cutting pliers is good for cutting the spline and trimming it close after placement. --A spline roller with a blade on the back end would probably be more danger to the screen than it would be worth in convenience. Standard scissors work for fiberglass screen, anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Screen Tight Project Success! Decided to screen in my existing porch. Researched systems, decided on Screen Tight. HD delivered the pieces in several deliveries. Once all received, started the project. did one panel to "learn" and practice. then did the others. Worked really well. Quite simple, straightforward. base installs easily, screen and spline worked well together, and caps fit nicely. Experimented cutting base and caps with hacksaw, dremel and shears. shears were easiest, and couldn't really tell if it wasn't perfectly straight. Project looks great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Floor Fabulous The entire Screen Tight system was designed for the non-contractor to be able to use. if we had been working on a first-floor rescreening it would have been SO easy. However, we were working on a second floor installation and it was very challenging. It is now done and looks great, aside from hanging off of ladders to install it worked very well and made re-screening our room a pretty straightforward task. I would do it again, but only if it was ground level.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Most of the slots for the screws were missing. Overall good, but I found that most of the slots for the screws were missing. Further, the slots which did exist were not at a uniform distance from the center.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super product I highly recommend this product if you are doing any screen work, it removes all the guess work and looks great.
