Can a new screen be purchased for this door?

We have one of these doors, but the screen is torn. Can we unscrew the old one, purchase a new one and screw it back on?
Asked by: BigHouseOwner
This door has a set of aluminum channels in it. They are designed to accept a fiberglass or plastic screen that press-fits into the channels using a rubber gasket. Then you can cut the screen down to size. It is pretty easy, but see the comment on painting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good door, but unpaintable The door is well made, came early, and has worked like a charm! Met my needs really well, except with one notable exception; parts of it cannot be painted. The design is nice, with the bars on the lower half, but since they are only on one side of the screen, you cannot paint the backside of the bars without either painting through the screen or dismantling the door. This wasn't a deal breaker for me, but if you want a perfectly painted door, then skip this one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from defective door Here are 3 reasons not to buy from this manufacturer: 1. One of the wooden slots was split. This was not due to transport, since the box in which the door was shipped had no dents and the wood splitting was vertical. 2. The joints on the top edge of the door exhibited large gaps at the seam that the manufacturer did not care to fill. 3. The quality of the wood used in the door is questionable: Some of the wood used in the door shows darker, bluish pigmentation, typical of moldy wood or wood that has been improperly handled during the drying process. 4. The wood pieces used in the door frame have sharp contrasts of color, in some cases, atypical of healthy wood. This means this door needs painting to hide its flaws.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as it seems First, the door was shipped with a significant defect. The wood joints did not meet. Also, it is made of numerous pieces of wood so it cannot be stained. One would think that a wood screen door could be stained. It does not state in the description if the door is stain grade or not. And, it does not come with any hardware. This is stated in the description, but just be aware.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from sags Door made out of different woods so staining will not be consistent. Worst, the door will sag after a few months after installation. No reinforcements at the top corners. Buy a plastic one and paint. Save some bucks. I removed this one and put it up on the back door to the dog run. Dog likes it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wood used for door completely made from scrap Wood used to construct door is 12" to 18" scrap pieces dove tailed together. Not at all a stain quality door.
