Customer Questions & Answers

power to base

Can this pan base operate on the security system camera power (12vdc)? In other words, can it be wired in series with the camera power?
Asked by: Mike
You must supply power to the base via a wiring harness which is supplied.

Customer Reviews

Remote Control Pan Base for Camera is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Panning for views Out of the box, I installed the camera mounting bracket to the base, with clear user manual instructions. The camera mount bracket easily adjusted to the tilt angle I needed & securely held it there. I mounted the base upside down, with the included screws, to a shelf over my window. Although the base allows a smooth pan of 370-degrees one way, before automatically returning the other way, I use it to change the angle of pan as needed. The wireless remote worked perfectly allowing me to pan left, right, start & stop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from UPSCALE CAMERA REMOTE CONTROL PAN BASE Easy to install, accepts many security camera mounts. Quiet operation with full pan ability via remote control. Good instructions. Great for wide video pans where you want to see a large area. Nice, durable unit. Amazing price for this quality.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea, but not for me This pan base sounded great, and I was anxious to try it, but sadly it did not fit my security cameras. I wish the description would have stated that it only fits cameras with a 1/4" screw hole instead of stating that it is "for most wired and wireless cameras". The idea is great, the 370 degree rotation is nice, and it runs smoothly but loudly. The remote works well and states the range is 150' line-of-sight, but I have no indoor space that long that I could have tested the range. It does not appear that it could be used outdoors, the manual says to avoid sunshine and moisture. It seems that this product would be best suited to a business location or a home indoor security camera that screws on. It can only be mounted downward on a ceiling or upward on a flat surface, not on a wall, and it needs an electrical outlet close by.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Limited uses for several reasons, Sound, Weight and Electrical Cord is too short for most mounting locations. Out of the Box: lightweight plastic body Pan Base, an arm of lightweight metal to attach camera and a 2 inch square electrical plug on a 6 foot cord. Also included is a light plastic remote. The quality of the plastic construction reminds me of a plastic children's toy. The Pan Base works, the plastic body moves almost 360 degrees. The best use for a device that pivots a camera is to place it up high where the camera is free to move all the way around. A six foot cord is not long enough to connect that camera to a low wall electrical socket or a power strip. Therefore, it has very limited uses and for me is not a good value. I mounted it on the lowest ceiling in my home. It is the only ceiling with an electrical outlet, the garage. See the Video. The arm where the camera is supposed to mount bent in one of my hands. I am near 60 with arthritis, it would not hold a heavy security camera that would be pivoting on it to my satisfaction. The best use for it would be a lightweight one screw mount camera. When panning It is noisy, not good if you are using it to make short video with sound. I don't recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not very impressed. Functional, but just barely. I didn't expect a whole lot with this product, but was underwhelmed. I received this as part of the Seeds program, or I would be directly returning this to the store. This remote has two buttons for power and reverse. If left going, it will spin just over a full 360, then reverse, then reverse, then reverse... This scanning could be useful if you had a way to control the range. This is locked inside the unit. It is possible to glue in something to limit the range, but I doubt the little motor inside would handle the continuous use in that mode. Reception range is pretty good with the remote antenna extended. The unit doesn't look like an outdoor capable setup. I wouldn't trust it anything but inside. It is fairly cheap looking plastic. I think it is probably as lightly built as possible without failing. It will probably work with a light camera for quite a while. And accidental bumping or intentional harm will destroy it. One feature I do like is the power pass-through for the camera. The device includes a standard 12V 200 mA barrel plug to power the attached camera from the turret power brick. Internal circuitry doesn't give me many worries. Wireless modules are pre-built. Power and direction are controlled by small relays. The motor can be easily stalled with little force. The planetary gears look robust enough to do the job, as long as the user has a reasonable camera weight. I think the motor is the weak link in the system. All parts considered, if I am going to the trouble of mounting a camera, I would spend a little more and get a more robust turret. If you are not relying on it for a security standpoint and just for more of a convenience camera, it might be OK for you. I'm on the fence for recommendation, but looking at the price vs quality and performance, I am just on the not recommended side.
