Can it be used in a fixture that has motion detection? Most reviews say no, but at least one says yes. Please clarify.
Asked by: DIYgirl
It is best if you do not have a motion detection since the light has already a motion detector. if you put the light on a motion activated socket it will turn on the light then the light will be activated if there is motion, therefore creating a delay. And if your motion detection is only for one minute and your video is longer then you will have a cut video, hope that makes sense and hope this helps.

Is the bulb replaceable or is it garbage after the bulb blows.??

Asked by: Acesupaaron
The Snap's LED bulb is not replaceable. Its Energy-efficient LED is rated for 25,000 hours. That is 8.5+ years if you used the bulbs an average of 8 hours a day. -Sengled Support

Snap - 60W Equivalent 3000K PAR38 HD Camera Outdoor LED Flood Light is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Idea, Easy installation for Security around the house I have cameras around the house but in my garage I do not, so this was an easy addition to secure my garage without running wires to the garage. The light/camera looks attractive and out of the box it is easy to just plug on the outlet and control from the phone. The installation of the application as easy as well. Controlling the light from the phone its very easy. You can stream live video for free. And if you want to review video that is not live you have different payment plans, a bit pricey I think I'll wait until they go down in price to buy one of their plans. Overall it is of good quality, easy installation and best of all peace of mind,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weatherproof, Wi-Fi Security Camera in LED Floodlight The Snap HD Security Camera is a technological wonder masking itself as a common lightbulb. Actually, it's an LED floodlight with a hidden high definition security camera. It is completely weatherproof and fits all ordinary sockets. The wi-fi enabled live streaming is viewable on your smartphone or tablet via their free Snap app. The Snap app allows customizing light preferences, such as automatic timers and dimming capabilities. It allows you to divide your yard into "zones" for the benefit of receiving notifications on your smartphone when motion is detected in any or all of the zones. The upside to this remarkable feature is preventing false alert notifications. By allocating entryways as zones, for example, the dogs won't trigger alerts when they're running around outside. I installed the Snap Security Camera in the light fixture on my back porch and the video even at nighttime is crystal clear. I am amazed at the quality audio and video. It is superb quality. The free app is easy to use and live streaming is always free. Optional plans are available for $3.99 per month or $7.99 per month, depending upon the timeframe in viewing old video. For $3.99 a month, you will be able to view the previous 24 hours of video, then save it to the cloud if you choose. For $7.99 a month, you will be able to view the previous seven days of video. It's a very competitive price plan falling in line with most other security camera companies. The first week you are given a complimentary plan to play around with and find out which one would work best for you. This is a top of the line product. It's very high quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crazy Neighbor We bought this product to catch a crazy neighbor. It worked! The audio & video quality is 720P. You can choose higher quality if you wish. The motion detection is very sensitive. It will pick up moving shadows. We disabled the alerts or you get 500 a day. Otherwise, easy to install, great picture, is also an intercom and can reviewed from wherever you may be. Doesn't look like a regular camera so you can install it incognito. Totally wireless!!! Remember, you must have internet signal reaching the area you want to record. So a horse stall, garage, dog run will need to be reached by your wi-fi signal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easiest installion ever I love the fact that there were no wires! As long as you follow the directions it seems pretty straight forward. The only suggestion I have if you are having issues connecting is use a light socket close by your modem for the first initial connection. That worked great for me!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I really wanted this camera to work. I love the idea of not having to wire a camera or install a wireless one. With this one, all that is required is to screw in a light bulb which is why I was excited when I received it. I wanted to use this camera at the very back of my house where a flood light was but I had to remove the motion sensor fixture and install a simple, low cost, flood light fixture. Because this camera/light requires constant power, it cannot operate with a motion sensor switch that turns it on and off. That makes sense. However, after many attempts, I could not get the camera to work as the app kept failing. I thought that the distance from my home's Wi-Fi was the issue so I moved it to another flood light fixture at my pool area just outside the window near my router. After several hours and help from those with more technological expertise than me, the results was the same. The "Snap" app required to communicate with the camera kept crashing (see pic). I have already spent hours on this and will probably try again in the future but as of this writing I cannot recommend this camera.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No as 'user friendly' or cost effective as I had hoped With all of the new technology coming out for home security options, finding a good option/device that REALLY fits into your home and family use, isn't as cut and dry as I had hoped. While it's great being able to cut the cord (so to speak) over the old security services like ADT, that were attached via a keypad to our homes, it often seems like we are cutting one service only to then be obligated into joining/paying for another. Oddly enough it seems like the new home security options, are almost like buying an inkjet printer - the first initial purchase isn't so bad...but then the ink costs hit home eventually. The fact is it seems like every time I choose a new "self security device" I must also take into account how much the monthly cost associated with that device MUST be taken into account. I'm not exactly pleased that I must now use THEIR cloud (or nothing), is sort of akin to backing folks into a corner. Things like "Yes, you can have instant access to an event that took place" - BUT - if you have [for instance], a break in or prowler, where you need to review that event, or pass the info onto the police, that device MUST be hooked up to their (paid for) cloud. For us, the whole point of going to "self security"( at least in my mind), was to help eliminate the costs associated with companies such as ADT. We didn't necessarily mind paying for their services when they were hooked directly to their systems, as they monitored the house. But now, if you want to install your OWN security systems, (and there are a plethora of devices and companies out there to choose from), trying to come to a conclusion of WHICH device or company is best, and adding up how much the monthly (and yearly) costs associated with using a particular brand, MUST be brought up and taken into account. Because in all honesty, it isn't being spoken about too loudly when you are in the stores looking at which device or company to go with. But first and foremost, comes the initial install of the bulb. I had NO idea that it would not work with my current outside motion activated light fixture! The bulb device while an incredibly great idea, won't allow me to install into my current motion detecting base. Which means that now before I even screw the bulb in, that I'd have to go out and purchase a new fixture before I can install it. I wasn't too happy about that either. To be honest and fair, based on these two issues alone,(and there IS a third reason mentioned down below), I never got the bulb installed. And here are my reasons: The minimum monthly charge for their cloud is $3.99 per month. A small price to pay when you take things into account - but that is for ONE bulb. If I add more, those bulbs also face a charge. We also already have a RING doorbell and solar powered "stick up cam" that is already also on a pay per device plan for THEIR cloud. This cost for us currently is $60 per year for two cameras. Between the monthly use charge AND the need to purchase a brand new light fixture, pretty much changed my mind on the install and the ability to 'try it out'. I really didn't want to have to purchase a new light fixture and then come to the conclusion that I either didn't care for the bulb, or again, I didn't feel like paying for the use of the bulb 'events' cloud storage. But my third reason is wifi related. In all fairness I currently have a rather expensive personal home network "cloud" in my house already. Once it was purchased and set up, there were no other monthly costs to keep it running as my back up and storage system. And by having this NAS (network attached storage) system, I honestly wish there was a way to bypass the 'must use' feature of ANY company clouds, just to see your past events. Like I said, at first you only hear $3.99, but that four bucks a month starts to add up fast when you start adding on cameras! Who is going to be comfortable with just one security camera? This rings especially true, when it comes to vulnerable areas of your property! We have a mid sized home (2500sqft) but it's a ranch style home that has a rather large footprint - and even though it's not THAT big, we still had to add another yet another cost onto our home security 'costs' to take advantage of our "personal camera devices". That involved having to boost our internet, to a higher bit rate. On the lower tier for cable internet, the wifi signal was so weak, that the any possible signal to the cameras, was too weak to record the event. This rise in bit rate added another $60 per month onto our internet bill. And we had no choice. The cameras must have a decent wifi signal in order to record and send a message to the owner that a security or motion event, is currently taking place.Boosting the wifi bit rate was the ONLY way to get a decent wifi signal to ALL of our current devices that we already own and are hooked into any wifi related status - the majority of homes have over 20 wifi devices hooked in at any given moment, so a STRONG signal is a must have. And even though we've booted the signal, we've also had some major issues with our wifi signal being able to even reach the outer corners of the outside areas of our home. We've tried many things, but are finding that no matter what, we still cannot get wifi to reach out there - unfortunately as far as this bulb camera goes, that pretty much sealed the deal for us and not installing it. Had we known about the incompatibility in motion sensor lights, as well as the monthly charges, we would have not ordered it from the start. It's a fantastic idea, the bulb is made extremely well, but the 'extras' that are associated with just getting it hooked up in MY home, were just far too many in OUR case.
