Customer Reviews

0.37 cu. ft. Fire and Water-Resistant Key Lock Safe is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Time will tell... I bought this item to organize and further protect Irreplaceable documents and media inside of a larger safe with a 90 minute fire rating, and feel confident that it will be adequate for that purpose. It is unlikely that this safe will ever be subjected to more than 350 degrees, far less than the rated 1550 degrees. I've only had it for a couple of weeks, and it has not been tested by fire, flood, or break-in, so those capabilities are impossible to evaluate. All I can offer is general impressions. The first thing I noticed was the weight. It's heavy, a good thing for a "safe". There must be an interior structure of something besides plastic. However, the most predominant feature is that the interior, exterior and fire/water seals are all made of plastic, which would seem to melt and deform if it were exposed to an actual fire. However UL knows their business, so if they rate it for 30 minutes of fire protection, at 1550 degrees, I believe it. Sentry could give potential purchasers a lot more confidence by stating that the plastic has a high thermal rating, but they don't, so we don't know whether it does or not. Must trust UL again. Calling it a "safe" is a mis-nomer, as it looks like it would be easy to break into with simple tools, and it is not designed to be secured to a solid surface. Some people seem to be obsessed with the lack of a carry handle. I don't see that as a drawback, except as an inconvenience for thieves. Nobody is going to want to carry this beast around, and I mean that in a good way. The keys are cheap, but I don't intend to lock it. The latch is easy to operate, and is different on this model from the ones which received poor ratings for the latch. No excessive force is required in order to open or close the "safe". I would like it better if not as much of the interior space had been devoted to the inside of the lid, and were more useable (hence four stars). There is good fit and finish and it appears well made. During extensive research of these sorts of devices prior to purchase, the Sentry product emerged as easily being the best product, in my opinion. For the price, and within it's obvious limitations I feel confident in recommending this safe, or I would not have purchased it myself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Basic Fire/Water This is a really good fire box for the price. Given the size and mobility of it, if someone breaks in they'll likely just take the whole safe so it's important that it's kept in a good concealment spot. I use it for keeping important family papers safe from destruction from fire and flood, keeping valuables in this may not be the best use as it provides little protection from being broken into.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Top latch assembly ripped out I have owned this safe for about 3 years now and open it about twice a year. Today when I opened it, the top latch assembly pulled up and out. It was sitting flat on the carpet and was opened normally. Sentry needs a better design. Looking for a new (not Sentry) safe.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK Although I only had this safe for about a year, and the plastic part pulled right out, I contacted the company, and they replaced it for me! Great company, but not so great a safe! We'll see how long this one holds up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fire Inspector's feedback on this fire "safe" Just had a pretty serious fire in my condo complex and went out and bought this in the afternoon. With ~15 seconds notice to evacuate, I don't want to have to think about what valuables I should grab. I want the security of knowing they are protected in a safe and I can just get out. So this "safe" appears to be trustworthy when you take it out of the box. However that grey handle at the front is thin plastic. And its the only thing holding the two halves closed. The key just runs a little metal bar through a loop in the plastic. It could be broken into by hand without tools by pulling on the plastic. In a fire that plastic will melt quickly and the safe would pop right open. The fire inspectors were still at our condo complex when we got this home. Unfortunately I live in a city where there are A LOT of fires, and these guys have seen it all. They looked at it and said its junk for the same reasons I've noted. They also said that the 30 mins of protection claimed is not enough. Most serious fires last a lot longer than that. So basically this safe will not give you fire protection and is definitely not "safe". Returning this item.
