Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LegalStorage strong box for storage of important legal papers
It arrived on schedule and was well-packaged. My only criticism is that the safe would not open when we first received it. We were advised that the waterproof sealer apparently expands if you don't open the unit on a regular basis and then the lid sticks shut. To overcome this, you have to turn the unit upside down for at least an hour. The pressure apparently reduces the suction effect so that you can then open the unit. It worked. But, I can imagine that if this becomes a recurring issue, it'll get harder and harder to turn the unit upside down as it gets filled with papers... something to think about. We did not return the unit as we have the same one which was purchased several years ago and it works fine, so we're hoping for the best with this unit.

I was excited after reading the reviews for this item and wanted a fire safe (file type) with lots of room in it. After receiving it I tried very hard to open the H3100 safe and only after 30 minutes and having to sit on it did it open. I got the keys and instruction book out and then closed it up so I could try to reopen it. I wasn't able to get it open again so I quickly loaded it into my truck and took it back to Home Depot for a refund. HD was great and immediately issued the refund. This safe is very large and there are no handles to carry or move it and the tiny release latch for opening it was totally inadequate. I can't believe that Sentry Safe designed this safe with such a shoddy latching method. Just a tiny bit of extra engineering that would have cost Sentry Safe almost nothing would have made this a good product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Harv This product meets my needs to store important documents.
For the price, I feel that I got a bargain deal! However, I am concern about the construction of the product, i.e., the ceramic parts within the walls and top are prone to deterioation after 3 or 4 years of storage. I had a friend that bought this product almost 3 years ago and now there is ceramic powder and chips that is falling out from the lock area (top portion) onto the push button switch thus causing it not to open. He had to spray WD-40 onto the switch...this did help in opening the safe. However, this is just a minor solution to the problem...he will need to take the safe to a lock smith to have them clean the lock switch and try to find a way of preventing ceramic powder and chips from getting into the push switch.

This fire / water proof box is well built, but is heavy to move around. The weight could be a good deterrent for thieves. We had some trouble with the lock, you really need to push down hard on the top to unlock it. We love that it is a file box, helps to keep things organized. Overall a great product.

I have been trying to secure my families assets in a number of different ways and I decided that a fire-proof and water-proof safe was in order. Traditional safes are too large to fit in our small condo and this box slides right under my clothes in a closet. It will withstand a house fire and subsequent dousing by the fire department. It is heavy enough to be difficult to move but if you fill it with a couple of stacks of coins, this box isn't going anywhere.

This product arrived at the home of our 83 year old parents and wouldn't open. After contacting tech support for this product, they were told to beat on it with a hammer to try to get it open. they were then told to dispose of it themselves and wait a week or so for a replacement.
