Answer:
The smaller size ( 8 x8 ) makes it better for the beach, and with striaght legs a smaller foot print, but it NEEDS to be secured or it will get taken by the wind. You will need more than the standard stakes that come with this unit if you are going to use it at the beach. You also should keep the hieght as low as possible.

I think this would work. My only concern would be it blowing away. That happened to me and damaged a leg. There are holes in the feet for what I think would be stakes, but not included.

I think it would be useful on a beach, however I might purchase some stakes to use with it on the beach since it's often a bit windier close to the ocean. Also, while it is relatively lightweight for the size, it's got some heft to it so I wouldn't want to carry it too far. Definitely useful if you are part of a group and someone else can help carry it (or carry your other stuff), but if I was going to Read More

Plus, I wouldn't use on a really crowded beach. Read Less

If you have the room to take it. The carrying case has wheels on it. Pops up in 5 mins. If you can carry to the beach i would take it.

What holds the weights onto the legs? Looks like there should be some kind of plate that attaches to the bottom of each leg ??

Answer:
There were no weights included with the unit I purchased but, at the end or at the foot of each there is a plate with a hole in it, this way you can purchase stakes to hold it down.

The weights I bought go around the legs of the tent. I also used tent pegs since there is a place for that on the feet of the tent poles. I have both weights and pegs for windier days.

Answer:
If using the Quik Shade Weight Plates there are slots in the plates that fit the legs of the canopy and each weight is 5 lbs each, there is no further action needed in order to apply the plates.

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 75 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Canopy Used it for the first time and one of the leg buckle and will not come down. Worst yet I don't have the tools to unscrew the leg, after 10 mins of fighting with leg it got broken. Homedepot will not take it back because is not "factory defect". August 8, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Okay Patio Canopy We purchased this for a sun shade on our deck because the size was perfect. We have had it one year. We used it for about one month last summer and three months this summer. We have had no problems with the frame. It is light enough for one person to put up and take down. Our only complaint is that the canopy does not hold up very well. Early this season we already had tears in it which we fixed with Gorilla tape. We called the manufacturer and found out we can buy a replacement canopy for $34.99. Unfortunately they are on back order at this time. If you are only going to use this ocassionally it's a good buy. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Fair value for the money Got the canopy for sun shade on a deck. Fit OK, but immediately found out it would need to anchored as it will not stand up to a mild wind. Used ankle fitness weights and bungie chords to railing around deck. Also saw canopy not tight around frame. Sewed ties to anchor to frame. Has stayed out for a while in wind, sun & rain. pin holes are starting to appear and there seems to be a deterioration of the canopy on on. Going to need to replace the canopy at some point. In strong winds, took the canopy off, but left frame in place. With care, should last for a while. Like any product like this, care is needed in handling. July 11, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It was USED! I was looking for shade from my backyard, so I picked this up. When I finally got it home and got it open, I noticed that it was used! The tires on the bag had marks from being used on the cement, and the pole feet were scratched! Luckily it was for shading my garden and ultimately it didn't matter. I was just disappointed that Home Depot would put a used item back on the shelf and sell it again. August 30, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not Very Durable Easy to use however one of the legs is already broken and we have had it for less than a month. We do use it everyday. August 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very easy to set up. I needed a very simple, easy to set up canopy. This is the one. August 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ok for the price This is the second time we purchased this canopy. It is OK as long as you follow instructions especially about use in weather. It just will not stand up to winds over 5mph and the canopy will not stand rain. Even being used in light wind, weights are needed as well as anchoring the legs. Just have to be careful as the legs buckle easily. For what we paid, it is satisfactory and will last for a bit, but feel it will wear down over time much fast than other canopies. August 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wish it had a wall! This canopy went up great, just wished it had a wall to really keep out the hot sun. For the price I paid it should have had one. August 16, 2016
