Customer Questions & Answers

Can it be used to connect to a PVC pipe or does it have to be CPVC?

Asked by: Waterdog
sharkbite fittings work on copper, pex and cpvc only because they grip the outside diameter of the pipe.

Can this be used with galvanized male fittings or directly on galvanized pipe that is threaded?

Asked by: plumberquestions123
Yes, it can be used on 1/2 in. galvanized pipe that is threaded. The fit from female end of this product to male end of galvanized pipe will be perfect (assuming you use plumber's tape correctly).

Work For Hose Bib?

I need to install a new hose bib on my 3/4" copper pipe. My current hose bib is not a standard length. Can I buy a new 3/4" frost free hose bib, attach this fitting to the threaded male end of the hose bib and then attach the shark bite slip on side it to my existing 3/4" copper pipe?

Just to clarify...

Both ends of this adapter are meant to fit 1/2 in? Meaning that the push end will fit a 1/2" pex pipe and the brass female adapter will receive a 1/2" male threaded fitting, correct?

Just with there was a sharkbite product that went from 1/2 to 1/4 to work with the reverse osmosis purifier fridge kit. It took this female 1/2 fitting and one other male 1/2 to 1/4 back to back to make the connection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plumbing has never been so much fun! My husband and I recently purchased a cabin that was built back in the 1940's, it needed a total gut job down to the studs! Needless to say, that included plumbing. We received several estimates over $2500 to replumb it. We have done traditional plumbing before and knew we could do it ourselves...but it's such a pain! After speaking with an amazing Home Depot Rep about the SharkBite system, we decided to give it a try. It took us less than an hour to replumb the entire bathroom, and another 20 minutes to tie in the kitchen! And it was fun! The initial investment seems expensive, but compared to traditional copper, plus the added expense of a plumber, this was worth it's weight in gold!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical and it works Don't waste your money getting copper if you need a fitting to do the job right. I bought brass fittings made by Shark Bite and is simply the best. I learned the hard way. I just installed a water heater in my house and used copper fittings from another manufactures, Blue Hawk I believe. It was such a waste of money and mainly time. No matter what sealant I applied, it leaked. Such a frustrating experience. I ended up spending more more on those other fitting. That when I bought Shark Bite and installed their copper fittings and this particular one made out of brass. Guess what...not a single sign of moist. I recommend this fitting and brand. Don't use capper where it need to be tight. The threads will no hold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing short of miraculous I was replacing a 4 way shower diverter and did not want to solder. I cut the 1/2 copper pipes square, de-burred them with the sharkbite tool, added Teflon tape to the threads and popped them on. It was a tight spot, so had to modify the de-burr tool slightly so that it would rotate in the limited space (I cut the tool leaving just the 1/2 inch end). One challenge was that the hot and cold pipes (left and right) were fixed, so there was no room to get the last sharkbite connection on (see pic). No worries, sharkbite has a two inch slip coupling that did the job. I cut out a 3 inch section of pipe, shortened this to 2 inches and put this on the non-slip end of the slip coupler and slipped it on which left enough space to get the last connector in. Attached the last sharkbite to other end of my 2" pipe on the slip connector, pulled it onto the cold water thread with the tool provided and tightened. Voilà! Before I turned on the water to test the pressure I was doubtful it would hold. The connectors spin on the pipe when you tighten them! What!? I was dumbfounded, not a drop! All connections were tight and the diverter is firmly held in place. Amazing product! A miracle indeed. We've used the shower for a week and still no leaks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Product I rave about the the smaller SharBite connectors and now I will do the same for the new 2X connectors. The design is even better than the small ones and the product feels very solid. I used it to tie into a 1 1/2 inch drain line that was ran through a concrete wall. The connection is solid and leak free. Definitely worth the cost. It saved me on both time and materials.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as Expected Other fittings from Menards leaked when boiler water was below 100 degrees. These do not leak ever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fixed leak that other compression fitting didn't Got two of these to use on male hot water heater posts to go to 3/4 copper. Got another brand first, but they kept leaking at the threaded end. Talked to a friend said I needed to make sure the fitting was ntp for hot water heater. These are ntp and they worked great the first time. Used some Teflon paste and good to go.
