1/2 in. Brass PEX Barb x Female Copper Sweat Adapter is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Same as others - Solder does not stick I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems sweating these fittings. Of the 6 I installed, 2 started dripping afterwards. It was obvious that the solder did not get drawn into the connection while I was sweating it. It must be something about the alloy that is used in these brass sharkbite fittings, as opposed to plain copper.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not Buy I have been sweating and brazing pipe for over 20 years and have never seen anything like this. solder will not stick to these fittings. tried several different flux and solder brands, none worked. Will not buy these again. Sharkbite has a real problem here. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They're Brass This is complete garbage Anyone with a little experience with a propane torch can tell you, however, that soldering is never a one-size-fits-all operation, with different jobs requiring different techniques. In particular, soldering brass pipes can be more challenging than soldering copper. Read on to learn why and to learn some tips on how to successfully solder a brass fitting. Brass Fittings Require Higher Temperatures The basic process for joining brass or copper pipes is essentially the same: Clean the pipe ends that you intend to join until they are shiny and free from any burrs or debris. Next, brush on the plumbing flux and push the pipes together. Finally, heat up the fitting using a torch, while dripping liquid solder into the joint to create a secure and water-tight barrier. In 2011 they stopped producing MAPP and now they produce MAPP+ which is 400 degree cooler than MAPP Brass does not solder well, brass is cheaper than copper, right sharkbite manfacturer

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cannot get solder to stick I have had the same issue as many folks here. I had an issue with four of these where the solder would not stick. I am a homeowner but have done thousands of sweating copper pipes and never had an issue like this. The initial three I replaced with other ones and was able to complete. Last one just did yesterday wasting over two hours and a visit to HD was completed only by switching to the threaded SharkBite fitting to a copper threaded fitting that I was able to sweat in less than a minute. I am a bit concerned about the SharkBite fittings left that were soldered that they may start leaking one day, so will need to keep an eye or totally remove all of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No problem -- a great fitting I have installed about a half dozen of these adapters recently. I had no problem sweating them. I wire brushed both surfaces and used a good flux. Oatey No. 95 petroleum-based tinning flux worked great, but I also had good results with Oatey's H2O-95 water-based tinning flux. The latter is less forgiving and more difficult to use, but eliminates the insoluble sludge inside the pipe and is easier to clean up on the outside. I used Oatey Safe Flo lead free solder. I was able to test all of my sweat assemblies with air before installing in my house. All of them had no detectable air loss, 2 hrs at 100 psi. After installing in my house, I did not have one drop of water leak out either end of these adapters at roughly 60 psi. Great Results! I'm a DIY'er.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy, if you know what to do! I used on a few supplies and had no issues. You must heat the piece correctly in order to take solder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked for me I had no problems using these fittings. They sweat right on the pipe the 1st try.
