Product Overview

The 1/2 in. SharkBite Push-to-Connect Polybutylene conversion coupling is the easiest way to transition from Polybutylene pipe into copper, CPVC or PEX pipe in any combination with no soldering, clamps, unions or glue. Just insert the pipe and the stainless steel teeth bite down and grip tight, while a specially formulated O-ring compresses to create a perfect seal. Disassembly is just as fast using the simple disconnect tool so fittings and valves can be easily changed and reused. They can even be rotated after assembly for easier installation in tight spaces. SharkBite Fittings are certified for potable water supply and hydronic heating applications. Get SharkBite and get a grip on your next plumbing project.

Will this connector work with Polybutylene tubing on both ends?

Will this connector work with Polybutylene tubing on both ends?
Asked by: John
No. You have to start with our Polybutylene adapter fitting. One end (gray) installs on the polybutylene and the other end (tan) you can then begin PEX, copper or CPVC. If you have any further questions, please contact Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

I have a leak where the 3/4 pvc meets the 5/8 polybutylene pipe with a threaded female and the fella at HD says they quit stocking the ' grey fittings '. What can I use to join them ?
Asked by: Blue
We offer two Polybutylene adapter SharkBite fittings; 1/2" and 3/4". We also offer SharkBite PVC transition fittings. You could connect one of our SharkBite PVC transition fittings to the PVC then start running PEX pipe. If you have further questions, please contact our Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

Are both sides push to connect ?

Asked by: Adrian
Yes, both ends are Push to Connect. The grey side connects to the polybutylene and the tan side connects to PEX, copper or CPVC.

If I use a coupling in a cold weather climate in an insualted crawl space, is it going to be more likely to freeze at the conection?

Asked by: ricki
Copper water systems should not be allowed to freeze. When water freezes, it expands and creates pressure that exceeds plumbing system pressure capabilities, i.e. pipes and fittings burst. Insulating the pipe and connections would be beneficial.

1/2 in. Brass Push-to-Connect Polybutylene Conversion Coupling is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick install and very easy to use! Had to repair a bunch of grey polybutylene lines in my home, and I wanted to convert to stainless steel braided lines but no one made the ends for the obsolete material. Instead I used these adapters ro go from grey poly to white pex to my new lines. Couldn't have been any easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes working with older mobile home plumbing a cinch! Purchased my Shark Bites for my kitchen plumbing and went home. After I cut my Shark Bite 1/2" plumbing PEX pipe, I lightly twisted the pieces through the Shark Bite Safe Seal Tool and sure enough, it nicely and easily cleaned up the ends of each piece of pipe, plus, you can mark the 1" mark exactly with the tool. Hooked the valves and connectors up with my piece of PEX pipe then slid them right over the old piping, which in my case was polybutylene (old mobile home grey plumbing). If you have the same, make sure to use Shark Bites for polybutylene. Works well! Would not hesitate to use Shark Bites for any future plumbing project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SAVED A BUNCH USING THIS! My mother had a pipe rupture behind a wall on a Sunday afternoon and had to shut off the main water to the house. When I arrived the place was just drenched. Finding a plumber would have been a miracle, and then we all shuddered to think what he would charge as we would be at their mercy. We started breaking through the walls and found the source of the leak. Having watched a few YouTube videos, I was prepared to sweat the pipe and went to Home Depot for the supplies. Upon arrival, we just happened to meet an associate that recommended this product. I was in disbelief that something so cheap and easy would work, and I was hesitant because I've been let down so many times before by so many products, but this seemed reasonably priced and would save time... if it really worked, so I gave it a shot. It worked. All I needed to do was cut the section out and pop this piece in. I was still skeptical, so we left the wall open "just in case". It is now one month later, wall repaired and no leak or trouble from that repair. My reviews are usually bad because I expect products to work and do what they say, so I will only pipe up with a complaint [pun intended]. I have been disappointed by cheap, overpriced products, but as I search to see what other connectors are available by this brand, I had to say my piece about this product and extend thanks to the nameless HD employee that suggested I try it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good homeowner product Had a pinhole leak in the cold water line in the kitchen ceiling. I've never been good at soldering pipes. I wanted the job done right. I put a patch on it to get by until a plumber could come a week later and repair the line properly. Plumber comes and installs these couplings. Quick and easy. He said they don't solder anymore; they use these couplings when making repairs. Who knew? I use the the plastic couplings with flexible water lines (RO units, etc.) and always found them reliable. I suspect these are as well. Good homeowner product.
