Product Overview

The 1/2 in. SharkBite Push-to-Connect Polybutylene conversion coupling is the easiest way to transition from Polybutylene pipe into copper, CPVC or PEX pipe in any combination with no soldering, clamps, unions or glue. Just insert the pipe and the stainless steel teeth bite down and grip tight, while a specially formulated O-ring compresses to create a perfect seal. Disassembly is just as fast using the simple disconnect tool so fittings and valves can be easily changed and reused. They can even be rotated after assembly for easier installation in tight spaces. SharkBite Fittings are certified for potable water supply and hydronic heating applications. Get SharkBite and get a grip on your next plumbing project.

Hi Mike,
Yes, this fitting will work on your pipe. This fitting works on 1/2" CTS which is actually 5/8" OD.
Thanks for your interest in our products.

I use only Sharkbite Push-to-Connect
for new PEX plumbing, repairing portions of the grey pipe, and a bit of both -see pic
I am fairly certain I've not once used a A Push-to-Connect Coupling which was specified as Polybutylene Conversion
My work holds nicely-no complaints.
so what is different?
thanks

Answer:
Hi,
The difference between the mustard colored side and the grey side is the stiffener outside diameter. The stiffener on the grey side has a larger OD to support the thinner wall of the polybutylene.

Answer:
Hi Mike,
SharkBite fittings are rated for use with Oxygen Barrier PEX. This fitting in particular is for transitioning from Copper, PEX, or CPVC to polybutylene; because of the difference in the wall thickness of the pipe, the polybutylene side of this fitting will not work on PEX.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick. EASY. No leaks Sprung a leak in the gray polybutylene garbage in a 1984 mobile home. This fitting was a life saver. Slid right onto the poly and sraight onto cpvc. No glue. No leaks. Worked great! May 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LIFE SAVER!!!! Cut out the busted pipe... Go at least 6-8 inches past leak, on each side.... Clean up ends... Push on SharkBite coupler.... Insert new piece... Attach opposite end...BADA BING..BADA BOOM! No more leak! June 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good homeowner product Had a pinhole leak in the cold water line in the kitchen ceiling. I've never been good at soldering pipes. I wanted the job done right. I put a patch on it to get by until a plumber could come a week later and repair the line properly. Plumber comes and installs these couplings. Quick and easy. He said they don't solder anymore; they use these couplings when making repairs. Who knew? I use the the plastic couplings with flexible water lines (RO units, etc.) and always found them reliable. I suspect these are as well. Good homeowner product. January 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SAVED A BUNCH USING THIS! My mother had a pipe rupture behind a wall on a Sunday afternoon and had to shut off the main water to the house. When I arrived the place was just drenched. Finding a plumber would have been a miracle, and then we all shuddered to think what he would charge as we would be at their mercy. We started breaking through the walls and found the source of the leak. Having watched a few YouTube videos, I was prepared to sweat the pipe and went to Home Depot for the supplies. Upon arrival, we just happened to meet an associate that recommended this product. I was in disbelief that something so cheap and easy would work, and I was hesitant because I've been let down so many times before by so many products, but this seemed reasonably priced and would save time... if it really worked, so I gave it a shot. It worked. All I needed to do was cut the section out and pop this piece in. I was still skeptical, so we left the wall open "just in case". It is now one month later, wall repaired and no leak or trouble from that repair. My reviews are usually bad because I expect products to work and do what they say, so I will only pipe up with a complaint [pun intended]. I have been disappointed by cheap, overpriced products, but as I search to see what other connectors are available by this brand, I had to say my piece about this product and extend thanks to the nameless HD employee that suggested I try it out. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Makes working with older mobile home plumbing a cinch! Purchased my Shark Bites for my kitchen plumbing and went home. After I cut my Shark Bite 1/2" plumbing PEX pipe, I lightly twisted the pieces through the Shark Bite Safe Seal Tool and sure enough, it nicely and easily cleaned up the ends of each piece of pipe, plus, you can mark the 1" mark exactly with the tool. Hooked the valves and connectors up with my piece of PEX pipe then slid them right over the old piping, which in my case was polybutylene (old mobile home grey plumbing). If you have the same, make sure to use Shark Bites for polybutylene. Works well! Would not hesitate to use Shark Bites for any future plumbing project. September 3, 2013
