Customer Questions & Answers

Can you solder threaded end?

I need this exact fitting but instead of the thread on the outside I will need to attach to copper pipe and solder to switch over to sharkbite push-fit on the other side. I am having trouble locating the correct piece with push-fit items. I have done this before with sharkbite crimping pieces, will I need to use that piece instead to be able to use solder with copper?
Asked by: Raffi
Plumbing is tough. The best answer is have exactly what you need and install one time. If it leaks it is very hard to stop it. Most things bend or compress with installation, if it leaks, may have to start over.

can this be used to attach to a galvenized female fitting?

should be, use teflon tape or pipe compound as directed. DO NOT TWIST THE PIPE INSIDE THE SHARKBITE

Hot to screw spout on without fitting spinning on pipe?

I need to use a screw on tub spout - copper stub doesn't have threaded end. Can I use this fitting to get the job done? Will the fitting spin when I screw on the spout, or does it take more force to spin the fitting on the pipe than to screw the spout on the threads?
Asked by: MikeMI
Hi Mike, SharkBite fittings will spin after installation. That being said, it is not recommended to use a SharkBite fitting for tub spout installations. A copper sweat adapter will be the better option for this scenario. Thanks for your interest in our products.

I used this fitting recently as part of a new plumbing assembly in my laundry room. Specifically, I secured two of these with teflon tape to a new laundry sink faucet so I could connect it to PEX piping. I had no leaks. Instructions say the tubing should go in an inch, I found they go in about .8" or so. Although a bit pricey, these fittings and PEX made easy work. It took me an hour and a half to complete the job. From the photo, all I had left was securing the drop ear elbows for the clothes washer valves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 20 Second Installation While replacing a washer in a leaky outdoor spigot, I cracked the faucet handle. In trying to remove the spigot, I broke the connection between the spigot and the copper water line. Googled how to repair this and stumbled on SharkBite couplings. Was able to purchase the SharkBite connection I need locally. Had to remove stucco around pipe to access it as it was flush to the exterior wall. Was able to use hacksaw to square off end of pipe and a Dremel bit to sand the edges smooth. Wrapped spigot connection threads with teflon type tape, inserted coupler over copper pipe, attached spigot to coupler, closed spigot to check for leaks. Not a single drop of water. No leaks when turned faucet on with hose attached to it. While I am not looking forward to future plumbing repairs using SharkBite connectors will speed things up considerably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved me tons of work We were setting up for a summer birthday water slide party with about 60-70 guests and it never fails the back main spigot on our house cracked. Well the connection needed to be cut off and what I though was solder a new copper fitting on. This all happened about 9:30 at night, so not too many options to get the thing fixed. I drive down to HD and notice these Sharkbite adapters, well thought its worth a shot. I hacked off the old fitting, sanded it clean, and pushed on the sharkbite connector. Attached a new spigot with a female coupling and turned on the water. Walking back from the valve, I was expecting some leakage, but turn the corner and not even a sweat from the connection. This thing went on in a few minutes work and seems to working great. This really saved me from having to learn to solder copper joints and go one with our party the next day. We will have to see how durable it is as time and seasons pass by.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not good for my project Seems like a super concept, however my problem was that the shower/tub trim kit I'd purchased was supposed to have come with a slip fit tub spout and it ended up having a threaded spout, which I didn't find out until every other component had already been installed. After contacting the manufacturer, was told it was a print error on the packaging and that they don't make that model in a slip fit. I don't have the equipment to sweat on a male fitting and didn't want to buy it all or hire a plumber to do it, as I'd already spent more on the trim kit than I'd budgeted for on a spare bath, so the helpful HD staff assured me this would be a simple, viable solution. Not so much. I also bought a tubing cutter and the tool to remove the Sharkbite and quickly found that the Sharkbite spins at the press-on end so the tub spout NEVER gets tight to the wall....this also prevents the fitting from tightening down enough seal, so water pours out the back of the spout. I took it off and used pliers to thread this into the tub spout as tight as I could get it, then pushed it onto the pipe and though it still spun readily, it at least wasn't spurting water out where the spout meets the wall...that is until I engaged the diverter, and unfortunately it just couldn't tolerate the increase in pressure and now this time it just spun instead of unscrewing, so took a bit of work to get it off again. Tried both with and without thread tape and nothing worked. Waste of a whole lot of time, multiple trips to the store 30 miles away, and even more money that I shouldn't have had to spend.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not so hot Would have worked maybe if connection above had not been trouble, but once it had pressure twisting on it , it failed
