1/2 in. Disconnect Tongs is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from MUCH easier than the plastic clip I had to remove and re-seal a shower rough-in valve (it was the soldered joints that failed, not the sharkbite ones!). The plastic disconnect clip is a waste of time, don't bother - it's difficult to exert enough pressure whilst simultaneously pulling the fitting off. These tongs, however, worked first time for me - so easy. The clip may be cheaper but it's a false economy. Spend the extra $5 and get the tongs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for plumbing emergency The 1/2 inch SharkBite Disconnect Tong is the easiest way to disconnect 1/2 inch SharkBite fittings. Not only can you use them in open areas but also in hard to reach places. Not all SharkBite fittings release easily every time but these tongs makes every release easy and effort free. With out these tongs it can be tough to get leverage on the release collar of the fitting making the job take too long. The Stainless Steel Disconnect Tongs are especially made for quick release for anyone frequently using SharkBite Fittings. Since the tongs are made of stainless Steel they will not rust if they get wet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great removal tool I ordered this and arrived at the store in a box large enough for a mower. There was no padding so initially I was concerned with the delicate electronics, but all works great. There was no instructions but I quickly figured out which end to use to remove the pex pipe. However with the lack of instructions there was no one to say "don't use this to flip hamburgers". I expect it will be a while before the hair on my fingers grows back. Bottom line it works a whole lot better than the little orange things that I kept losing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Word: GREAT! First off, these seem a tad pricey for being such a simple tool, but after using them, I would absolutely pay the $25 for them! I do not do much plumbing, but am glad that I have this tool now. They make removing the sharkbite fittings so simple. The little plastic disconnect clip can get frustrating & painful. This tool does neither. At first glance I thought they would be very flimsy and only be slightly better than the disconnect clip. Wrong! They are solid & do not flex when you squeeze them. One side of the tongs applies pressure to the disconnect ring thing, the other tong provides counter-pressure on the opposite side of the flange. It takes very little effort to use. My 8 year old daughter used them with no problem. This is one of those tools that I may not use often, but when I need it I absolutely prefer it over the other available options. I love this thing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One handed action even when fitting is completely installed I had worked with Sharkbite fittings on a number of occasions around my home in the past few years, but I was unaware that this tool existed. Maybe it’s new or maybe I just didn’t know. I think I’m a perfect candidate to review it considering I did without for so long and can truly compare. I do find myself removing these fittings on occasion for two reasons: 1. I screwed up and need to adjust something, like by adjusting the run of the pex. 2. I rework that section of plumbing. These fittings are reusable so once I buy a fitting it’s “in inventory” so to speak. I’m always adjusting my plumbing as I make improvements to my VERY old home in stages. Sometimes a fitting comes apart without much effort using the tool that comes for free with many of the fittings. I have a few of them in ¾” and ½”. Sometimes, however, I have fought with the process for a couple of minutes. The issue is that you need be able to squeeze and this is often difficult to do with your hands, when the fitting is already installed. This tool allows you to squeeze with one hand. It really does make the process a no-brainer and releases the fitting in a matter of seconds. I had one fitting that was a little sticky and all I needed to do was apply the tool, squeeze and then rotate it a little and squeeze again. The fitting came right off. Maybe ten seconds? Verdict – if you work with Sharkbite once in a while and have every removed a fitting, I absolutely recommend the tool. If I were a plumber I’d wish for a heavier duty version just because I like nice tools, but this is exactly adequate for the job and won’t break. I just looked up the ¾” version on the HD site and it’s $8! That’s 25% of what it’s selling for on another major site right now. I’m at HD quite often and will grab the ¾” version on my next trip to add to my plumbing box. Please see the attached photos for an example of the two techniques.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shark Tongs This is one of those things that you think, why didn't I think of that. This tool is great for taking shark fittings off pipe, pex, or anything you put it on. Fits in the tool belt nicely and to use it just put it on the fitting and squeeze. That's all there is to it. It unlocks the fitting with no problem. Simple. Do not exert to much force on the tongs as the forks will bend, but that's a lot of force, It is well made to do the job without forcing it. You might need to tap the bite fitting to loosen it so the tool works. I haven't had that problem and I have removed about 50 fittings. Saved me a bunch of money on fittings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy Handy tool when you need it. Don't let the picture fool you, this is a sturdy made tool. I have used the orange plastic releases that Home Depot sells for years, this tool makes it much easier. It does still take that wiggle effect to get the pipe & fitting apart but less pulling. It seems when taking fittings off of installed pipes it is always in a location that is hard to get both of my hands into, let alone the leverage I need to pull at the same time. This tool will allow one hand to compress the lock & pull, while the other hand holds the pipe your taking it off of. These even have a colored rubber coating on the hinge end which is a different color for the different size pipe! Making identification and retrieval from from your tool box easy & quick!
