Concerned about the rubber disintegrating

I've read some reviews elsewhere that the internal rubber hose will disintegrate especially on the hot water side. It may take only 6 mos to a year depending on your water conditions. Has this been corrected?

I carry a selection of these in 1/2 and 3/4 and can swap a hot water heater in 15 minutes no matter what the plumbing or heater differences are - they provide the flexibility needed to make the connections. The next time the heater needs to be replaced it will be even easier since these will already be in place. They are also available with shut offs if the previous plumber did not install one. A real time and parts saver. There many ways to do a hot water swap, but why bother when this is a simple plug and play that never leaks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install, no leaks, quality product !! I used 2 11'' flex hoses and a in line ball valve on my new hot water tank install and it made what might have been a tough job very easy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from EPDM rubber is not compatible with Chlorine Within 5 years the EPDM rubber began to breakdown and deposit soft deteriorated rubber 'bits and flecks' in bath water and in spigot strainers. Black deposits are soft and smear leaving greasy streak. City water treated with Chlorine will break down EPDM, this kind of rubber is graded "C - fair" with respect to material compatibility with Chlorine. Do not use or change out frequently if on city water. Suggest stainless steel or alternate (neoprene) type of flex product.

Let's see now, sweat copper pipes or push on Sharkbite connectors. Time will tell but so far so great! I'm using this same review for the other size Sharkbite hose I got. One note of warning for tight area placement. If room is a premium the Sharkbite with the ball valve may not be a good option as it reduces the amount of bend you can put on the hose. I returned the valve ones for this style and it worked like a dream.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubber failed I'm a contractor who installed these with new water heater in 2008 in our home. Over the last year there started to be black chunks and residue in the tub water. They would smear and coated the tub at water level. We've been showering, bathing in and cooking with whatever residue and contaminates are included in this. This is a health concern.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Black gunk in my tub Installed by contractor. Six months later black gunk comes out into the tub only when the hot water is on. The rubber lining in the hose broke down. The black gunk looks powdery and floats on water. It sticks to the side of the tub forming a ring around the water level smears on the side of the tub when you wipe it.

Couldn't be happier! This product works as advertised and certainly makes installation of a water heater a non-event. Would recommend it to any do-it-yourself homeowner.
