Product Overview

Cash Acme pressure regulating valves are designed to reduce incoming water pressure to a safe pressure to protect plumbing components. They also help to prevent pressure surges from entering the household from the main line. High pressure can cause damage to appliances and plumbing. A pressure regulator should be installed after the main line to help protect plumbing. The Cash Acme EB-45 is a half-cartridge based pressure reducing and regulating valve with a lead free bronze body. The valve resembles traditional regulators with a spring chamber and an adjusting screw but offers the high performance of a cartridge based valve. Fitted with the SharkBite Connection system the EB-45 can be installed using a push-fit connection that can be installed on any combination of Copper, CPVC, or PEX Pipe.

What is the easiest way to install this in my sprinkler supply line

I already have a regulator for the house supply. I want this for my sprinklers. I have easy access to the supply after the backflow preventer. Should I install a union fitting, or will the copper pipes flex enough to allow installation?

Answer:
You don't want a pressure regulator on your sprinkler system. You want as much pressure as you can get on a sprinkler as long as it is below 160 psi. Most water companies run between 70 psi and 120 psi. Depending on the size of your yard you can have several hundred feet of line in your yard. Lower pressure means less distance and less overlap coverage which can cause brown triangles.

Hi Andrew,
For use with an existing copper line, i would recommend using a slip PRV. This allows you to cut out a small sections of pipe, slide the slip end onto the pipe and then slip onto the other end of the copper pipe.

Answer:
This regulator valve works on Cpvc, copper and Pex pipe. Most plumbing codes do not allow pvc pipe to be used on the interior of a home. Check your local codes for pvc to be compliant. A lot of older homes also have galvanized piping and this will not fit the galvanized pipe either. However, you could install this valve on the pvc pipe by adding fittings to the pvc to change over to either copper or pex Read More

Answer:
That is correct. CPVC is Copper Tube Size and PVC is Iron Pipe Size. Currently, SharkBite fittings work with PEX, Copper, and CPVC.

Will this valve also require installation of a thermal expansion tank?

If this valve includes a backflow preventer will it necessitate also installing a thermal expansion tank on the plumbing of an otherwise open system that is connected to a well serving 30 houses? System water pressure fluctuates from about 60psi to over 100psi.

Answer:
Hi,
I would recommend installing a thermal expansion tank to prevent the system from over-pressuring the lines due to thermal expansion.

Rated 2.9 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Severe water hammering I installed this into my main line (120 psi input) to replace an existing but aging regulator. Upon first turning water back on, experienced violent water hammering that would continue until the water was completely shut off. Everything from flushing toilet, irrigation solenoids, and shower caused hammering. Was only able to prevent hammering by barely opening main valve. Replaced with Zurn 600XL, SKU 245406 and had absolutely no problems since. July 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Also severe water hammering After about 9 months, I also am having the problem that this pressure valve has started causing my entire house plumbing to hammer whenever water is turned on. It started with just the washing machine but now has extended to everything. It has taken me a bit to narrow the problem down, and once I saw the other people with the same problem, has confirmed my diagnosis. I will be replacing this with another PRV ASAP . July 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible I'm on my third, and it's gotta go! The thing is mostly noise, though this one is running high pressure now. I hope I can find my receipt, so I can get something different. The first one bade a terrible banging noise while water was being used. The second a moaning noise during slight water use. The third, (current) makes also makes a moaning, but is any water use and is so loud it can be heard all through the house, even in the yard all the way to the street. May 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by violent pulsating after installed I purchased two of these for two separate water lines entering my property. The municipal water pressure had gone up significantly and was running 90psi-140psi and blowing out our hot water tank pressure valves in both buildings. I like sharkbite and these installed easily. They might very well regulate the water pressure. However, a very loud, violent, pulsating has resulted from both regulators when water is running through them that I'm afraid will shake my plumbing apart. It does come and go so it might coincide with when the incoming pressure is highest, still well under the maximum rating of the regulator. I tried adjusting the pressure on one, but it didn't change a thing. I emailed Cash Acme twice asking for advice and received no response back. I'm surprised no one else has complained about these. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Super Fast and Easy Installation with Copper or CPVC Super Fast and Easy Installation with Copper or CPVC I am still skeptical that o-rings in the Sharkbite application will withstand the tests of multiple DECADES of time. I love how fast and easy the installation is and personally after consulting with a plumber I buddy would use sharkbite fittings only for a temporary fix until a "real"/traditional time tested soldered-connection could be done for copper or primed and glued threaded-connection could be made with CPVC December 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Life Saver! Existing PRV went out at 2am Sunday and the banging pipes woke me up. Ran a test and I had 110 psi in my lines. Turned water off to the house and went to Home Depot as soon as it opened. I have used many Sharkbite fittings and valves in my house and they are amazing! My PRV was in a very difficult place and this Sharkbite PVR was the only way to go. Cut the existing out, made sure the copper lines were cleaned and deburred, marked where the ends should push to, l always leave the plastic inserts in with copper unless they get bent at all then I take them out, push together and one hour later I'm all set! Easily adjusted the pressure to 60psi with the screw. Never have had a leak or any problem with any Sharkbite! Has saved me hundreds of dollars! November 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by pressure regulator I love how easy this valve is to install. This pressure regulator valve is a time saver easy and easy to adjust the pressure. You can use it either with copper tube,CPVC or PEX. They save so much time and effort by not having to sweat copper fittings. You will be happy with this pressure regulator again it was a time saver all you have to do is cut the pipe clean it and slip on the regulator just that easy. October 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good replacement regulator I installed this regulator in a tight crawl space. It made it very easy for me to just cut the line in two places and slip it on. I was done in 5 minutes max. The time saved on installation is well worth the extra expense. Follow the arrow to make sure you install it in the right direction. Since both side look the same it would be easy to install it backwards. Pressure is already factory set and no need to . November 11, 2015
