Product Overview

Cash Acme pressure regulating valves are designed to reduce incoming water pressure to a safe pressure to protect plumbing components. They also help to prevent pressure surges from entering the household from the main line. High pressure can cause damage to appliances and plumbing. A pressure regulator should be installed after the main line to help protect plumbing. The Cash Acme EB-45 is a half-cartridge based pressure reducing and regulating valve with a lead free bronze body. The valve resembles traditional regulators with a spring chamber and an adjusting screw but offers the high performance of a cartridge based valve. Fitted with the SharkBite Connection system the EB-45 can be installed using a push-fit connection that can be installed on any combination of Copper, CPVC, or PEX Pipe.

What is the easiest way to install this in my sprinkler supply line

I already have a regulator for the house supply. I want this for my sprinklers. I have easy access to the supply after the backflow preventer. Should I install a union fitting, or will the copper pipes flex enough to allow installation?
Asked by: andrewrstarcevich
You don't want a pressure regulator on your sprinkler system. You want as much pressure as you can get on a sprinkler as long as it is below 160 psi. Most water companies run between 70 psi and 120 psi. Depending on the size of your yard you can have several hundred feet of line in your yard. Lower pressure means less distance and less overlap coverage which can cause brown triangles.

Cpvc and pvc piping have defferent pipe sizes, this would mean I would not be able to use it on pvc piping.

Asked by: cp11
This regulator valve works on Cpvc, copper and Pex pipe. Most plumbing codes do not allow pvc pipe to be used on the interior of a home. Check your local codes for pvc to be compliant. A lot of older homes also have galvanized piping and this will not fit the galvanized pipe either. However, you could install this valve on the pvc pipe by adding fittings to the pvc to change over to either copper or pex pipe.

First let me say that this review is not about the Regulator itself but about the installation instructions. The instructions say to cut out a section of pipe 5.25" to install the new valve. The problem is that the valve itself is only 4.375" in TOTAL length. This caused me to leave the water shut off, run 30 minutes back to the HD to purchase another Sharkbite fitting to complete the installation.

This product is easy to install but after installation it makes tremendous loud hammering noise whenever water is used, as small as flushing toilet to as large demand as running washing machine or lawn sprinkler system. I cannot use water tonight and will try another brand tomorrow.

But since I got it working, I guess I'll give it 3. Installation was very simple with the press on fittings. But when I turned my municipal water (120 psi) back on and opened any faucet, this PRV made a terrible amount of vibration/hammering noise, shaking all the pipes in house! I let the racket continue, hoping that maybe the air needed to be bled from the system (I had drained all lines). But even with the air bled, it still made a racket. I did see some other HD reviews that complained about this very same issue - but I didn't realize it was for this EB-45 PRV when I was at HD shopping. I was so excited to see a SharkBite push connection PRV, that I forgot about the negative reviews... I had read that one person solved this problem by increasing the water pressure from the default 45 psi. I increased it to 65 psi and the noise has stopped. To the vendor: seems like this is a somewhat common problem - so why not comment on every review you find here that mentions it? Give your professional advice as to why it can happen, and how to correct it. One person asked if an expansion tank was necessary with this PRV - but nobody answered it (and could it cause this noise/vibration problem?). If you would kindly answer all questions, you'll be helping a lot of potential customers...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible I'm on my third, and it's gotta go! The thing is mostly noise, though this one is running high pressure now. I hope I can find my receipt, so I can get something different. The first one bade a terrible banging noise while water was being used. The second a moaning noise during slight water use. The third, (current) makes also makes a moaning, but is any water use and is so loud it can be heard all through the house, even in the yard all the way to the street.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Severe water hammering I installed this into my main line (120 psi input) to replace an existing but aging regulator. Upon first turning water back on, experienced violent water hammering that would continue until the water was completely shut off. Everything from flushing toilet, irrigation solenoids, and shower caused hammering. Was only able to prevent hammering by barely opening main valve. Replaced with Zurn 600XL, SKU 245406 and had absolutely no problems since.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Also severe water hammering After about 9 months, I also am having the problem that this pressure valve has started causing my entire house plumbing to hammer whenever water is turned on. It started with just the washing machine but now has extended to everything. It has taken me a bit to narrow the problem down, and once I saw the other people with the same problem, has confirmed my diagnosis. I will be replacing this with another PRV ASAP .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Saver! Existing PRV went out at 2am Sunday and the banging pipes woke me up. Ran a test and I had 110 psi in my lines. Turned water off to the house and went to Home Depot as soon as it opened. I have used many Sharkbite fittings and valves in my house and they are amazing! My PRV was in a very difficult place and this Sharkbite PVR was the only way to go. Cut the existing out, made sure the copper lines were cleaned and deburred, marked where the ends should push to, l always leave the plastic inserts in with copper unless they get bent at all then I take them out, push together and one hour later I'm all set! Easily adjusted the pressure to 60psi with the screw. Never have had a leak or any problem with any Sharkbite! Has saved me hundreds of dollars!
