That's what I did, cut copper pipe, cleaned the edge, pushed this onto the copper pipe, and plugged it onto the water softener.

Thanks for the quick response. However, after doing some additional research I ran across the information below that says NOT to use tape, but to use "sealant". What type of sealant do you recommend? And, if I do use sealant, can this cause any additional problems?

Answer:
Hi, The rubber gasket will ensure a proper seal; however, the addition of teflon tape will only add more assurance of a solid connection.

Answer:
Hi,
If 24" is not long enough for your project, the easiest solution would be a 1" coupling and a piece of 1" PEX.

Answer:
The best solution is to ask the folks at Home Depot to find a suitable length hose. You might also contact your water softener manufacturer and ask them if they can recommend a safe way to elevate the softener so the hoses will reach.

Answer:
Hi John, the hose connector is CPSC and CPSIA tested and compliant and does not contain a chemical that leads to cancer and birth defects. If you read that it failed, I would question if it was installed properly.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 44 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I was hooking up a new water softener to existing cpvc lines and noticed that the old softener had the ports facing straight out while the new GE softener offered only up or down facing ports, making it harder to mount the new softener without lifting it into place. The Sharkbites solved that problem big time. They were so simple to install and I had expected leaks from the push to connect end but following instructions to make sure the end of the pipe is square and clean I was pleasantly surprised that there were no leaks! The simplicity of the hose is amazing. Yes, it's a bit pricey but makes the job so much easier. I also used the Sharkbites to plumb in a whole house filter. Once again, another leak free installation. August 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product! Had to move water softener and used these instead of soldering new connections. They worked great. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Always #1 Very useful in tight places and fast I always use when i can July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy, seals great so far Frankly, I was skeptical this connector would seal up without any leaks, given our fairly high water pressure. But I took care to cut the pipes squarely and avoiding any burrs. Went on smoothly and hasn't leaked a drop in two weeks. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Push-to-connect is the way to go Bought these to connect a water softener. Flexible and easy to position and adjust softener after the connection is made. The stainless covering looks good too. August 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ecxactly what I needed The 3/4 IN. PUSH-TO-CONNECT X 1 IN. FIP X 24 IN. BRAIDED STAINLESS STEEL WATER SOFTENER CONNECTOR was exactly what I needed to finish my new water softener installation. I did not want to go to the expense of purchasing all the tools and supplies needed for a copper installation and I didn't need to hire a contractor; did it myself thanks to these connectors. Thanks for an excellent product. April 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by no leaks Bought two for water softener. They worked great. Simple to install no leaks look good. Saved time cutting and sweating pipes. Plus they are flexible. Only reason i give for stars is because they are expensive. They should have been included with my new GE softener. Anyway they are very good quality. They made life easier. April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great, makes installation so easy! While the shark connectors are a little more expensive they make up for it in ease of installation. I have copper pipes in my house I just used a pipe cutting tool to get a clean and even cut on the pipe and then just slide the shark end over the pipe. Make sure you push it up hard so it locks in and that's it. These are well built, high quality material and work well. You do need a special tool to take them off but I don't expect that I will ever need to remove it. December 10, 2014
