Customer Questions & Answers

How do this connectors work?

Meaning the sharkbite type.
Asked by: Rene
Inside the fitting there is a set of teeth that face towards the inside of the fitting. When you insert the pipe into the fitting it slides into two o-rings and the teeth grab the pipe so that it cannot pull out. There is a special tool used to release the teeth so it can be taken off.

contain plastic

do these contain plastic on the inner walls at all ?
Asked by: mmoore5553
on the inside sleeves and throat of the connector fittings. The inner walls of the tube itself appears to have a white plastic lining.

Won't the brass threads on this react dielectrically with the galvanized steel tank to corrode in time?

Looks like you are matching up dissimilar metals here if using this on a hot water tank with steel inlet\outlet. - Won't the brass threads on this react dielectrically with the galvanized steel tank to corrode in time? I doubt if a little Teflon tape in between is enough to stop that process.
Asked by: Anonymous
All water heater fittings have this issue. There is a sacrificial anode in the tank to deal with this.

Do these come in shorter lengths? Are they pretty flexible?

I only need about 13 inches. It will replace a copper line with a 90 deg elbow in it.
Asked by: everybody
There is an assortment of lengths. They are not rigid and are pretty flexible.

3/4 in. Push-to-Connect x 3/4 in. FIP x 15 in. Braided Stainless Steel Water Heater Connector is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 274.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant!!! I had one of those nightmare weekends where I had an unplanned water heater installation. I hate to sweat solder and these SharkBite connectors make water connections a breeze. The person that invented the ShartBite connectors is a genius! The braided stainless steel water heater connector is the way to go as it gives you a lot of flexibility in making the connections. I have 3/4" copper pipe and cut the pipe to the old water heater. I set the new water in place and made the water line connections using the ShartBite connectors. It was so simple. No leaks. I had hot water in no time. Thank you SharkBite and also to Home Depot for carrying their product.

I'm a regular homeowner and have installed many of these Sharkbite push-to-connect plumbing products over several years and they are great. They work flawlessly when used with a standard pipe cutter tool on supply pipes and are super-easy to install, requiring no other tools. Never had a leak, whereas with sweating & soldering pipes, or using flared piping with screw nuts, leaks were almost expected on the first pass. Also, if there's an issue (like you goofed a pipe cut length), it's easy to uninstall these and reinstall them after fixing the problem and they still don't leak. These will put common plumbing jobs back in the hands of homeownwers rather than over-priced plumbers.

As a professional plumber I use these 24" long Shark bite SS water heater supply lines due to ease of installation and reliability. They allow me to save time and my customers money during installation now that new water heaters no longer fit their old foot print due to new requirements for energy efficient guide lines set by the federal government. They are flexible enough to loop them without crimping them and can be removed with a simple tool. These supply lines are designed to fit copper tube size only and are not used for Quest pipe

I was so excited to see that SharkBite had made water heater connector hose. I was already a SharkBite connector fan, and I had already planned to complete my installation using the SharkBite connectors with various pipes and fittings because my current installation was ridged copper that had been sweated in all the way to the water heater. But pre-made connector was a huge surprise find. It literally took me less that 5 minutes to complete the water connections. Thanks SharkBite!

Let's see now, sweat copper pipes or push on Sharkbite connectors. Time will tell but so far so great! I'm using this same review for the other size Sharkbite hose I got. One note of warning for tight area placement. If room is a premium the Sharkbite with the ball valve may not be a good option as it reduces the amount of bend you can put on the hose. I returned the valve ones for this style and it worked like a dream.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why not?? Why would anyone ever go back to the conventional soldering method of installing devices. These sharkbite connectors are the greatest thing, especially for DIY'ers. Very easy to use and install, makes installing a water heater virtually painless! Sharkbite should give better instructions or at least have them readily available online. Pretty much just need to know where to mark the line so that you push the connector far enough...

I was trying to figure out how to plumb (CPVC) my replacement water heater that came with longer inlet/outlet nipples. Many thanks to the HD sales associate who showed me the SHARKBITE hose. Apprehensive at first about using a push type connection instead of cementing fittings together. Going on three weeks. They haven't blown off yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The hose worked great The braided hose worked great. The hose we replaced this one with lasted over 22 years, and the reason it failed was because the gasket between the hot water heater and the hose was disintegrating. We went ahead and replaces all the feed lines, the water heater itself, and the damaged Sheetrock.
