Product Overview

The 3/4 in. x 1/2 in. SharkBite Push-Fit Reducer coupling allows you to make a connection from 3/4 in. Pipe and reduce down to a 1/2 in. Pipe. SharkBite fittings are the easiest way to join copper, CPVC or PEX pipe in any combination with no soldering, clamps, unions or glue. Just insert the pipe and the stainless steel teeth bite down and grip tight, while a specially formulated O-ring compresses to create a perfect seal. Disassembly is just as fast using the simple disconnect tool so fittings and valves can be easily changed and reused. They can even be rotated after assembly for easier installation in tight spaces. Answer:
Hi Felipe,
To transition from 3/4" Galvanized pipe to 1/2" Copper, PEX, or CPVC, use a 1/2" PTC x 3/4" FNPT adapter.

Can I use this to attach a 3/4" push-fit hose bib to a 1/2" pex line?

I bought a house with a cracked slab. We basically capped off all the water pipes from the slab, since it had all been leaking. There was no telling which pipes had cracked without tearing out the slab. Temporarily, it is cheaper to run water through the ceiling, dropping down to the toilet. It will be months before I can repair the slab. Meanwhile...

I want a cold water faucet to use at a utility sink outside. The current (cold) water line is 3/4". I went to buy a 3/4" T, so I could drop a water line down to create a second water source. It would allow me to make coffee and such while I'm working on the house, plus clean up.

The only T in stock at my local Home Depot had a 1/2" dropdown. My plan was to cut the copper water pipe, install a T to continue to supply water to the toilet while creating a faucet for washing outside. To use 1/2" pex pipe to supply that "faucet," I'm thinking we can use a hose bibb as the water fixture. That way, we can attach a garden hose adapter and provide water all over the back yard and even the driveway and also wash up things.

When I got the parts home, I realized that the garden hose adapter was too large for the threaded output end of the hose bibb. Further, a 1/2" hose bibb seemed tiny.

Is it possible to use this "reducing coupling" to attach a 3/4" hose bibb? Or does it work as a directional valve, so that water won't flow from the 1/2" side to the 3/4" side?

Answer:
Hello Mike,
If I'm understanding what you're trying to accomplish correctly then this isn't quite the part we need. To come off of the 1/2" copper and meet a 3/4" hose bibb we need the fitting to be threaded on the 3/4" side.
I recommend this 1/2 in. x 3/4 in. Brass Push-Fit x MNPT Adapter: Read More
Hello Mike,
If I'm understanding what you're trying to accomplish correctly then this isn't quite the part we need. To come off of the 1/2" copper and meet a 3/4" hose bibb we need the fitting to be threaded on the 3/4" side.
I recommend this 1/2 in. x 3/4 in. Brass Push-Fit x MNPT Adapter: http://www.homedepot.com/p/SharkBite-1-2-in-x-3-4-in-Brass-Push-Fit-x-MNPT-Adapter-U116LFA/202270503?N=5yc1vZbux3Z4n3
This fitting will still allow you to Sharkbite connect onto the 1/2" copper supply pipe and give you a 3/4" male thread to screw the hose bibb onto.
The hose bibb needs to be 3/4" female at the rear like 3/4 in. x 3/4 in. Brass FPT x MHT Hose Bibb: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Homewerks-Worldwide-3-4-in-x-3-4-in-Brass-FPT-x-MHT-Hose-Bibb-VHNSTDB4B/202370050
This bibb will let you connect a full size garden hose without issue. If I've misunderstood what you're attempting feel free to reach out to me over at community.homedepot.com. There's a bit more room for long form discussion there, and I'll be happy to try and help you get this resolved.
Cheers,
Chris

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Expensively worth it I have used these shark bite connections before. Initially worried about them leaking but I first used them in an accessible place for over a year, no leaks. So I decided to use them inside a covered wall. Pretty expensive, so know your size before you buy. February 11, 2014
