Product Overview

SharkBite PEX tubing is a cross-linked polyethylene tubing for a wide range of residential and commercial plumbing applications. Manufactured with an oxygen barrier for radiant floor and hydronic heating applications (available in orange). The oxygen diffusion barrier applied to the exterior limits oxygen permeation through the tubing wall in hydronic heating applications which prevents corrosion of ferrous metal parts in the heating system. A repeating SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to determine if the tube has been inserted all the way into the SharkBite Push-Fit Fitting. This feature only works if the tubing is cut between the SharkBite imprint pattern.
  • Strong, flexible, resilient pipe that provides superior temperature performance
  • Oxygen barrier helps prevent the corrosion of ferrous metal parts in the heating system
  • Flexibility reduces number of fittings needed to complete a job; reducing cost and leak points
  • Can be installed wet or dry for immediate pressure testing
  • SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to ensure pipe is fully inserted when using SharkBite push-to-connect fittings
  • SharkBite system provides a variety of connection options, SharkBite PEX can be connected with SharkBite push-to-connect fittings or barbed fittings
  • Manufactured and tested to meet or exceed the requirements of the ASTM F-876/877/2023 and CSA B137.5

Questions & Answers

What is the difference between the Orange PEX at $168.50 and the Blue PEX at $129.00?

We need this for a boiler to run water 300' underground at about 120 degrees F. to a radiant heated floor in an outbuilding. It will be installed in a conduit (2" Sched 40 PVC) with an electric power supply at 24" depth.
Asked by: AndEnergy
Orange tubing (known as Pex-A) tubing has an oxygen barrier that keeps ferrous based plumbing fixtures & fittings from oxidizing. It is also more flexible than the blue (Pex-B). Kinks can also be repaired w/ a heat gun as opposed to type B 0r C where they have to be repaired only with a splice and fittings.

How many feet per 100 square foot?

Or, if I have a 12x15 180 sq ft room, generally how much tubing would I need? I have a 3200 sq ft house, trying to figure how much I will need?
Asked by: Slam
well.. you can't go off square footage alone because you're looking at linear distances of tubing compared to areas... for instance. 100sqft of a room 10'x10' (120" x 120") you would have 8 bays of joists (assuming 16" on center), each 10 feet long. Since you want to do a loop in each bay, you would need roughly 20' of tubing per bay times 8 bays or 160 feet of PEX (roughly) as an extreme example to show that it can vary, if your room were 6 inches wide and 200 feet long (still 100 square feet) you would need 400 feet of PEX to heat the same area. I realize that's a ridiculous example but it shows that, as your room gets more and more rectangular, the linear distances increase. You're best to measure the length of the room following the joists, multiply by 2, and then count how many bays you need to fill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed at a great price I needed this to repair a radiator hookup in an older home. I had a hard time finding the 3/4" pex with oxygen barrier in any plumbing/heating supply store and ultimately tried Home Depot on line. I had it delivered to my home in about 4 days. Next time I'll try Home Depot first!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product / easy to use. Used this product to make connections in existing hydronic heating system for additional baseboard heat. Used the clamp connections and some shark bite connections. You need the clamping tools for this. Can cut with a regular twist and spin pipe cutter but don't dig in too hard. Keep it warm as the colder it gets the hard it is to manipulate. Doesn't make 90 degree turns tightly, you need a good 12" -16" to make a 90. Just buy the 90 degree fittings if you don't have the space.
