Product Overview

SharkBite PEX tubing is a cross-linked polyethylene tubing for a wide range of residential and commercial plumbing applications. Manufactured without an oxygen barrier for potable water systems (available in white, blue, and red). A repeating SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to determine if the tube has been inserted all the way into the SharkBite Push-Fit Fitting. This feature only works if the tubing is cut between the SharkBite imprint pattern.

  • Strong, flexible, corrosion-resistant pipe
  • Flexibility reduces number of fittings needed to complete a job; reducing cost and leak points
  • Can be installed wet or dry for immediate pressure testing
  • SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to ensure pipe is fully inserted when using SharkBite push-to-connect fittings
  • SharkBite system provides a variety of connection options, SharkBite PEX can be connected with SharkBite push-to-connect fittings or barbed fittings
  • Listed to NSF 14 and CSA B137.5 for use in potable water systems
  • Meets UL1821 standard for plastic piping for fire systems (3/4 in. and 1 in. only)
  • Manufactured and tested to meet or exceed the requirements of the ASTM F-876/877/2023 and CSA B137.5

Answer:
Hi Jason,
As long as the compression fittings are made for 1/2" Copper Tube Sized Pipe and have a stiffener to support the PEX, you can use compression fittings on PEX. Thanks for your interest in our products.

Hi Leo,
To connect galvanized pipe to Copper, use a pipe thread adapter. SharkBite offers both female and male. These are sold in all Home Depot stores and on homedepot.com

Answer:
Hi Jake,
Yes, you can spray paint PEX. However, if there are any fittings SharkBite fittings exposed, cover them to prevent the release collar from becoming unusable due to paint "gluing" the collar in place.
Thanks,

I want to run this underground from the outdoor faucet connected to the house out to my vegetable garden. When it reaches the garden, I'll plumb a connection to the garden/soaker hose. Is it going to explode underground with the first hard freeze? I won't be using it in the winter, and I will bleed the line. Chicago winter.

Answer:
Hi,
PEX is a great solution for your project. PEX is freeze resistant. You must still protect PEX as you would any other pipe by insulating with pipe insulation. You can bury PEX underground and have pressure on the pipe year round.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 73 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does the plastic taste ever go away? It's been well over a year! Very easy to work with and install (cut, bend as needed and join together using sharkbite fittings). I bought everything at Home Depot in Tacoma, WA and installed in March 2015. Fortunately I only did one bathroom which was being remodeled and planned to do the rest of the house later. From the gitgo there has been a plastic taste when the faucets aren't used for a couple of hours. I cannot believe this stuff is still being sold. I will have my water tested and will go from there. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Same as others Like others said it keeps wanting to roll back up anyway I also wanted pipe insulation on it. Took some work but once I got insulation sled on no trouble sliding on down the pex. Then did it again to but insulation on it took 17. I duct taped the insulation joints together so no pex would show. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product, will buy again Was not easy for a novice but all you really need to do with this pipe is stretch it out in the sun and let it heat up. It is so much easier to work with. March 15, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Pex roll review It is very difficult to straighten PEX that has been in a roll. February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value, Easy Install I used SharkBite PEX to replace copper line running to my Water Heater. The red and blue colors make it easy to distinguish Hot and Cold lines after install is complete. Using a SharkBite elbow I easily transitioned from Copper to PEX, the PEX is more flexible than copper and easy to work with, it is also a great value at much lower price point. PEX is easy to cut as well and can be done with a PEX Cutter sold at Home Depot. Great product very easy to work with and use for an average DIYer. May 20, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy to use I was going to use some copper piping I had on hand for a small job but I noticed that my HD also had 3' length of this available so I grabbed one of those and it made the whole job much easier and cheaper since I did not have to use two 90° elbows... Such a simple system with Sharkbite fittings. February 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pex pipe is the way to go Flexible, easy to install, no joints to worry about. Just cut to length and fit. December 5, 2012
