Product Overview

The SharkBite Connection System offers an extensive line of barb fittings plus manifolds, supports and tools for both clamp and crimp ring PEX tubing installations. When a water distribution project requires low cost materials, a system that utilizes PEX tubing, barb fittings and manifolds is a good choice. In addition to being cost effective, these systems simplify the installation compared to copper or rigid plastic pipe systems that use solder or glue for fitting joints. The SharkBite PEX/Barb System includes everything needed, from pressure regulators and valves with barb connectors, to chrome plated stops for hooking up fixtures.

  • Cuts 1/4 in. - 1 in. sizes
  • Used in conjunction with PEX pipe
  • Compactly designed for tight spaced
  • No loose components
  • Easy to use

Answer:
It shears the tube, similar to a pair of pruning shears. Easy.

Answer:
It cuts all the way through without rotation. You need room to open the jaws wide enough to get around the pipe.

Answer:
No, but it's awfully hard to get copper pipe to slide all the way in if you don't. The plastic insert tends to hang up on the end of the copper, making it hard to firmly set the copper all the way into the fitting.

Answer:
No, the fitting will make a water tight seal on copper if the plastic insert is in or out. The insert is only required for PEX pipe, if desired it can be removed for connecting copper or CPVC pipe.

Answer:
There is no obvious way to remove/replace a worn blade, however, the portion of the cutter that houses the blade can be separated from the rest of the tool, wouldn't be too difficult to pass the blade over a stone if it got irritatingly dull.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It is junk. It will not cut straight. Buy another brand. I read other bad reviews before I bought this. I should have believed them. August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quick and easy Does a great job cutting 3/4 and smaller pex. Hard to get a square cut on 1" pex due to flexing of the blade and/or blade holder. I think it simply isn't strong enough to cut 1" tubing properly. August 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Works better on larger diameters I guess Bought these to help with installing our new water softener. Used Sharkbite PVC pipe, figured these would be the best tool to cut it with. Cuts the pipe very easily, but could NEVER get it to do a straight cut. Every single cut was at a visible angle to the pipe. Tried everything: Turning the tool the other side up, making sure the pipe was completely straight before cutting it, making sure the pipe had NO curvature to it at all. Nothing worked. Finally had to get a different cutter to make sure the cuts were visibly straight. Might be worth trying for the price, but there must be some trick to getting it to cut straight that others know that I don't. August 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick, safe, and easy to use Look, you can cut PEX with a utility knife, so it's not like you MUST have this tool, but on the other hand, this tool is not all that expensive, it cuts PEX cleanly and quickly, always giving a smooth, square cut.. Also, there is no danger of a knife slipping and hurting you, or your 9 year old helper. We did our PEX installation down in the crawl space and with this tool, I was able to have my kid mark and cut all the pipe, whereas, if I had used a utility knife instead, I probably would have done all the cuts myself. I do note that the blade itself is pretty thin and not replaceable, but for the price of this tool, I won't mind buying another if it wears out before I am finished with it. November 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well for PEX Cuts PEX well, not so good on other plastics (for which it was not designed). Cuts are clean, most times there's no burr to be cleaned off after the cut. The cutter is designed to help make the cuts square, but it's not perfect: be careful to line up the cutter at right angles to the pipe before cutting. It's hard to use in tight places (on existing plumbing) but not so hard as a hacksaw. December 16, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This product does not make square cuts as advertised !!! This PEX tool will not make square cuts on 1/2 or 3/4 pex pipe. I purchased 4 pex cutters from 4 different manufacturers and this one was the worse when it came to cutting the pipe. I purchased a Lennox and it was a little better but not perfect. I also purchased an Apollo brand and the received the same result as the lennox. The winner was the kobalt pex cutter tool from lowes. It makes almost near perfect cuts depending on your technique. I would not recommend buying this sharkbite tool. You will not be pleased with the quality of the cuts that it will produce . September 18, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Tool This is a great tool for cutting pex tubing. So far I have about 50 cut on this cutter and it is still razor sharp. Other cutter that I have used tend to crush the tube before cutting though it but this cutter slices the tube clean and with no distortion to the shape. August 19, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by twist and wobble this is a cheap any size cutter that has a high price tag May 13, 2014
