This 5 inch engineered hand-scraped maple features an artisan scraping process that sets Maple Edge apart with chattering and lots of character. A added touch is the process of hand coloring, multi-step staining in which each color layer is hand-rubbed. The process adds contrast and depth, emphasizing the scraping while saturating the planks with color. Cheaper competitive products can't compare with our quality or beauty. Maple Edge is rated with high color and character variation. It is imperative that hardwood planks from various cartons be continually blended during installation to insure optimum appearance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by So far, so good I haven't installed this wood yet, but it is beautiful! We actually ordered ten boxes of different types of Shaw engineered hardwood because there are no samples available and you can only order online. (It was a pain to pick out because of all the ordering and returning of entire boxes.)This was by far the prettiest of the ten we ordered and of the woods available in this price range at the store. The hand scraping looks genuine. We were trying to decide between this and the leather hickory which was about 50 cents cheaper per square foot. The hickory seemed to have less finish on it and I could easilly see how I would be snagging socks right and left. I wouldn't have been surprised if the hickory gave me splinters. This maple has a distressed look and feel, but is finished enough to protect your feet. I cannot wait to see what this will look like. May 22, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Got it, meh, returned it. I ordered 16 cases of this floor and returned it. Home depot took it all back and credited my CC immediately (didn’t need to wait for a check). The floor is OK. We were shopping for hardwood flooring and kept looking at the 3/8” samples in the store thinking they would have sufficient “bulk” to keep any flexing to a minimum and provide a more solid feel beneath your feet.. When this arrived it was apparent that 3/8” was not what we should have been looking at. However, there were other things that didn’t quite fit what we were looking for. You can’t find any other pictures online of this specific floor So it’s difficult to make a choice, we took a chance.. here is what we learned. In most indoor lighting conditions this floor will appear to be darker than the image shown. We use dimmers and anything other than full brightness resulted in the floor looking black with only the slightest hint of browns. The sheen on the floor is quite glossy. This poses a number of issues with light reflection and the amount of dirt you can detect. Imagine sitting on the floor, there is a low window to the left or right of you and the sun is beaming directly in. In the spot where the sun beam lands you will see every speck of dust. Walking over that spot with a sock will leave a dust print. You may be driven into a mad daily cleaning routine by the amount of dust you can see against this gloss and color. Overall the floor is smooth, there are no rough edges to catch a sock or Swiffer on. The distressing over does it a bit on the cross scrapping (the little ridges that go perpendicular to the plank length); it appears significantly on nearly every board. The cross scrapping ridges are smoothed over waves and less scratch like as you might see in other distressing. The hand scraping along the length of the board is almost undetectable by running your hand over it, certainly not noticed under foot. The tongue and groove interlocking went together ok, the material used on the tongue looks more of MDF than raw wood. The back of the planks are wood with some defects, knots, voids, etc. I tried to scratch the floor and it seemed to hold up well. Any dent would blend in with the distressing and any scratch could be colored in to make it undetectable. This was going in our kitchen, we have two young boys and a small dog. Overall we laid this floor out, tried to love it, but ended up going with a thicker distressed floor with way less sheen and a touch lighter in color. September 18, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great floors - tedious install... If you've ever installed laminate "click" flooring, this engineered flooring is very similar. There is an MDF tongue and groove on these planks that is very similar... The only difference is there is no locking lip. I installed using a flooring nailer which blew through the MDF on nearly every nail I fastened. This made setting the groove into the previous tongue impossible unless first cutting away the MDF that blew out with a utility knife. I would definitely install these floors again... But next time it will be glue down. November 5, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Beautiful color Product is a very beautiful mix of browns, from dark to Carmel. Installation is not easily arranged through Home Depot, and unclear if the product can be stapled instead of glue down. August 13, 2013
