I'm wondering what the average lengths of the wood planks will be? I hope they aren't chopped up pieces.

Recently, a customer stated that they received different shades within a box of the darker wood. Is this common and how often can it impact the use of the box for a whole floor? I would like to buy it but afraid that I will end up with various shades of wood that do not match.

Answer:
I ordered 17 boxes. They are not all the SAME EXACT color, but the color variance isn't as dramatic as the other reviewer. Heres how my room turned out:

Answer:
Shading is a natural quality of any pre-finished hardwood product. During installation the boxes should be mixed to allow for a natural appearance of shading.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TWO DIFFERENT SHADES OF BROWN March 10, 2014 I went to Home Depot to pick up my floors. Thankfully I had the sales woman open the box to see what the floors look like. Unfortunately, there were two different colors of brown in the box.It is horrible and I am extremely upset and disappointed. I understand that real wood will stain differently but the two colors were so far apart from being similar that I can't even work with them. View photos! In the last photo the darker wood is what I ordered and then I get the lighter wood mixed with it but as you can see the two colors will not look right even if I used dark, light, dark, light pattern. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I was hesitant to purchase without great reviews & no pics.. VERY HAPPY! After reading the other 2 reviews (one good, one bad) I was very hesitant to make a purchase, after all, this floor isn't exactly cheap and even after ordering the samples, it was hard to get an idea of what color the floor would be! After having the floor installed, I was blown away! It is exactly what I was looking for! The color is dark and it has just the right amount of shine. It looks aged and worn, but is pretty smooth to the touch! I can't wait to lay it in the rest of my house!! January 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Flooring!!! My husband and I were looking for good quality hard wood floor that can stand a lot of traffic with two kids. Finally we found this one on line and since we did not order a sample we were hesitant about it, but once it was installed it is so beautiful. The difference in each peace is very nicely done, each peace is different. Does not feel rough on your bare feet at all. We installed 1,000 sq. feet including the stairs and it is gorgeous! Highly recommend it. The best part about it is that it is Hickory, one of the best woods out there. So we are very happy with it and each peace is bigger than your average hard wood size.. which makes it look nicer! October 26, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loooooove this floor! This is the best money we have spent on our home. Great, durable, nice variance of color, not too dark, not too light. Does not scratch easy.. Considering we have two children and one dog it's very durable. Don't hesitate to get it and don't be scared when you open the box. It looks lighter in color in the box but once it's laid out it looks amazing!!!! January 29, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mixed feelings I ordered this floor but have mixed feelings about it. I have not installed it. The Home Depot photo makes the floor have a slight yellow undertone but the actual floor is very dark with a more purple undertone. I would call the color espresso. The color and style seems very modern to me rather than old city. The planks I saw all have nice graining but no knots. If you want a really dark floor this is dark. The definition between the planks looks nothing like the photo. I think in real life it looks more like laminate flooring because of the lack of definition between the planks. The face of the planks also look far more smooth than the photo although the planks do have character. The wood is beautiful, but more classy than character grade. The planks are very thin and the backing is not wood. The back and locking lip is made from a composite material (kinda like pressed cardboard) and I wouldn't trust it at all with standing water. The planks are beautiful but just don't have the depth I was expecting from the photo and when we laid them out I felt like it looked like a laminate more than real wood. Since we did not install the floor I can't speak for finished product. It is hard for me to believe the photo is even of the same product because to me it looks nothing like the picture. I asked the question about plank length and was quoted the planks were 58.5". While most are that length there are 4 planks in my box that are around one foot long. Not all the planks are long but most were. All of this being said: It is beautiful flooring and I can't expect a solid wood looking plank floor at this price point. I think I will return the product and keep looking but I will likely need to pay 2-3 times this much for the look I want. It was worth a try. March 7, 2015
