Maybe its designed not to dry as hard as the other versions for dust control, but this stuff diesnt really dry. Sanding off leaves scratch marks. I ended up putting an extra polish coat on using the blue lightweight compound. That seemed to fix the issue. Will avoid this version fron now on.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smarty Best product I've ever used!!
I've been in the drywall business for 36 years now, full time, and this is hands down the best compound I've ever used. I'm perplexed by all the negative comments I've read. I've experienced exactly NONE of the problems others have written about. I always first coat with a hard setting mud, usually USG 210, and then 2nd and 3rd coat with this Ultra Lightweight and everything is fine, EVERY time. I don't use it straight out of the bucket though. I mix it with some water until it's creamy and smooth. It's MUCH easier to apply in comparison to regular Plus 3, and it lays down much flatter on each subsequent coat. Sanding is simple and much less sanding is required because of how easily this product goes on. It dries equally fast when compared to other USG compounds. I often use fans to increase the drying time of ALL compounds, but I see no difference between the drying time of Plus 3, All Purpose, OR this Ultra Lightweight. I've had NO cracking and NO air bubble problems in the 4 years that I've been regularly using this. I agree that it does tend to mold up in the bucket if left too long, but buy it with the intention of using it rather than saving it and you'll have no problems. This product may not be for the weekend warriors, but it's the best thing I've ever found and I've tried just about everything I've come across over the years. Just use a setting mud for your base coat and never look back !!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by skyspy This junk turned into Moldy Water in 60 days
Wish I had read the other reviews first. Thought it was just me applying it wrong. cracks everywhere, next application cracked too. Had to leave this bedroom remodel for a couple of months. I opened the bucket today and it was milky-moldy water!! Don't buy this unless you want problems with mold, etc. I'm going to spray the whole bedroom with some kind of mold killer just to be safe. Because if it was in the bucket today, it is probably in the junk I already applied.

I'm not a professional, but I've done more than my share of drywall and feel my skills are sufficient. I'll never use this product again. I have never experienced joint cracks like this. Needless to say I am stripping all of my taper seams and redoing with all-purpose compound. Lesson learned. Don't make my mistake. Avoid this ultra weak product.

I cannot echo the sentiments of other posters any louder. This product is complete TRASH.
I purchased four buckets to finish a basement. I put the tape coat on Wed with regular weight drywall mud. It dried nicely, so I put the 2nd coat on Thursday using this ultra lightweight compound. I had planned to give it until Saturday to apply the finish coat and possibly prime on Sunday. However the 2nd coat took 5 days to dry. The finish coat took another 5 days to dry. Air bubbles took another few days to repair and dry.
Today, (2 weeks later) I finally was able to apply PVA primer, which turned into a nightmare. After spraying primer, the joint compound re-wets and turns soft. If you attempt to backroll over a seam, it pulls top layer of mud from the wall leaving a mess. The PVA primer says "recoat in 2 hours". It is now 5 hours since I sprayed. The primer dried in the areas where it was sprayed directly to drywall but I now have patches of wet spots where the compound re-wet. Who knows how long that will take to dry before I can repair.
Needless to say, this was a complete waste of time and money. I have always liked using USG products in the past and have never had an issue with their blue or green lightweight compound.
Was there ANY quality testing done on this product???

I bought this product to tape and mud my new garage. I have about 25 years experience with this kind of work. I usually buy the blue bucket lightweight stuff as I have never had a problem with it. as others have said, this mud takes forever to dry and when it does it cracks horribly. I have used it to skim coat at about a 1/16th inch thickness and it still shows hairline cracks. I have wasted about 3 days of downtime waiting for this stuff to dry. I have no idea what you would use this product for in finishing drywall as the shrinkage is very bad. I will go back to the blue bucket and definitely can not recommend this product. it should be pulled off the shelves.

I did not have the bubble problem other people describe because I used to just for a final skim coat. However I did notice that it takes a lot longer to dry then the other products in the USG line. Also, it's really not that much lighter weight than the other products, so I really can't see a reason to use it.
