Answer:
No, and it mustn't. Total closure results in a crossover. The hot water pressure, from the heating expansion, is slightly greater than the cold and would back the cold up so the first pulse when it is opened would be scalding hot.

I prefer the $10.00 option of buying this item VS. the tear out job where a matching the existing valve with the same style lever and finish could run well into the 100's of dollars.
Save the more expensive option later when you plan to remodel the whole Bathroom and absorb these hisgher costs into that project. Read Less

Answer:
Hi Al,
No. In order to comply with plumbing code, this valve cannot shut all the way off. This is to prevent accidental bursting or backflow to other faucets due to the water not being turned off at the valve. It does offer the benefit of keeping your water warm while the valve is in use.
Best regards,
Danco Support

Answer:
Hi Al, this valve is designed for you to use during your shower, but not as a shut off control valve. You use by turning on the water, get wet, turn water off at the valve, lather up, turn on the valve and rinse. This can shut off the water, however if you use this product that way, it causes cross connects. Always use the shower handles to turn water completely off after use.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.1 out of 5 by 21 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by slow the flow I needed to reduce the water flow into the shower head. My landlord just replaced the shower valve with a control mechanism that does not regulate the water flow. I do not need a Niagra Falls :gusher:" to take a shower. This valve does the trick. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it's supposed to Easy to install, working great, looks nice. Costs much less than a new low flow showerhead. August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad valve It leaked returned it there was nowasher and stem leaked also June 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what I was looking for. This valve is perfect for what I wanted to install in the shower to save water. February 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly as expected A tiny trickle when it is "off", which is what it should do. Total closure would result in a "crossover" where the hot water would back up the cold and would result in a scalding pulse of pure hot water when it was opened. The trickle prevents that. February 24, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by disappointing Debating on taking it back. The water hole is Itty Bitty! I didn't want a Water Saver, I wanted to control the water. Also it does not shut water off 100%. The only thing I do like about it is that its all metal. December 29, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Kept leaking I ordered this piece to replace a leaky valve. After installation, the new valve kept leaking in the shut off position. I returned it yesterday October 13, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not a shut off valve Good product for decreasing the flow of water significantly but if you want it to stop that annoying drip it is not the right product for the job. June 30, 2015
