Is one pad durable enough to last painting my apartment bedroom

Asked by: Kitty
No. I have painted many bedrooms over the years and this is not the product to use for that. You will have a much easier time painting walls with the traditional paint roller.

Is this a no dripping paint pad

Asked by: Boss
The best practice for loading the pad with paint is to dip it just far enough to cover the white flocking. Dip a few times at first to load with paint and run the pad along the side of the tray to remove excess paint. If not overloaded the pad will not drip between the tray and the surface to be painted.

Is this pad suitable for painting a ceiling?

I am painting the ceiling in an 8 x 10 laundry room with hanging cabinets covering much of the walls. It will be hard to maneuver a roller. I'm looking for an easier, and hopefully less drip prone applicator than a roller too.
Asked by: shopwise78
Yes, this pad could be used on ceilings.

Can this pad be used to apply Xylene?

Asked by: JTA419
I found that the pad fell apart within minutes when used with an oil based urethane finish. I would assume Xylene would be worse.

I don't care how many times you wash it or vacuum it you will still get the tiny fibers in your finished product. I have even tried using tape to remove all the loose fibers. If you are painting something with a texture then the little left behind fibers probably wont matter. But if you are painting a door or cabinet box FOR GET IT. ALL YOU WILL DO IS RE-SAND THE UNIT TO REMOVE THE TINY FIBERS LEFT BEHIND. I will admit you get less left behind fibers on the first use, but don't even try to wash it and re use it, sheds like crazy. Oh how I wish there was a product to paint a smooth finish with out it having to be a sprayer. Pentrol and Floetrol are my only options.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not suitable for solvent based clear finish Used this to apply an oil base varnish to 2 slab doors laying flat on saw horses. The work took about two minutes. While working on the second door, the white pad began to separate from the yellow sponge, and once dry, I could see it left hundreds of the fibers embedded in the finish. I had to sand both doors to bare wood to remove them all.

The button to lock the handle from swivel position frequently popped back to unlock (swivel). The pad holder needs to be made with a firmer plastic. Piece of junk as is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for light-duty jobs This is the second painting pad product from Shur-Line that I've used to paint my deck. The first one was a "deck pad" specifically marketed for decks, while this one is really marketed as an alternative to a paint brush or roller. Unfortunately, the problem with these products is that they are not durable. Within 20 minutes of painting my deck, the front edge started tearing off, and after an hour, the pad would no longer stay on the holder. I'm not the only reviewer to mention this, and I think the problem is as follows: this product should be viewed as an alternative to a paint brush, not a roller. Trying to push it quickly up and down a large area, as you do with a roller, tends to tear the pad and pull it off the holder. On the other hand, I found it to be really good for painting the railings around my deck, as it put down paint smoothly, and holds much more paint than a brush. Basically, it's best for detail work, although it would be even better for that if it were a bit narrower. I could also see this as useful for typical wall painting, because it puts paint down more smoothly than a roller and covers an area so much faster than a brush. Just don't push it too hard on a long extension pole, because it will break. So to sum it up, while this may look like it will be great for painting decks, don't bother using it for that. It actually was great for 20 minutes, helping me cover boards faster than any tool I've tried so far, but it got torn up in the process. This is a light-duty tool, and it really does work better than a brush or roller for detail work, because it puts an even coat down and doesn't splatter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Careful!! Design change There is a new design and unfortunately it's not nearly as stable as prior models. In fact, I'm writing this review taking a break from a painting project as the pad keeps slipping out. Extremely frustrating and frankly not workable. Especially since it requires more work getting the pad back on than prior models did. Better quality control should have been done to ensure customer acceptance. Having been a solid supporter of this brand in the past, I'm swearing it off until a redesign with more reliability is available.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Product I don't normally give really bad reviews but this product is truly awful. The pad slides off with any lateral movement or if you even lightly graze the annoyingly in-the-way button that releases the pad. Not only that, but the whole pad rocks back and forth unless you continuously apply lots of pressure to the upper button, making your finger get really tired in a hurry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ROLLER SPLATTERS ARE GONE. First time using a paint pad and I will not go back to using a roller. The paint pad used less paint. It was one coat coverage which also used less time in getting the job finished. The painted area was much smoother than it would have been if I had used a roller. The smooth application is due to the fact that the pad is locked into place. There is no slipping of the pad while you are using it. This 7 inch pad has an adjustable handle which is nice. It helps the pad to apply even paint and adjusts to make painting comfortable for the painter. It will also give you accuracy in tight spaces. The handle is threaded to fit extension poles. For easy clean up or replacement the pad is easily removed after unlocking.
