Customer Questions & Answers

How to clean so it can be reused.

Asked by: Dstarks1943
Generally, the Handi Painter is considered a single-use item however, when used with water based paint or stain and cleaned immediately with a gentle liquid cleanser you may re-use successfully.

Handi Painter 6 in. x 3 in. Paint Pad is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a smooth finish I use these pads all the time. Nothing works better on doors and woodwork, especially where you want a smooth finish with no brush marks or those little pocks that rollers leave. These are fast and easy, produce a nice even coat, and they're cheap enough to throw away when you're done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for soapstone! This works great for applying mineral oil to soapstone countertops!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Adhesive fails with oil based stains Used this to stain deck railings. Worked well for the job, but after awhile the adhesive holding the pad to the styrofoam handle failed. Think it was a combination of the stain breaking down the adhesive and the heat of the sun. Would likely still choose this over other tools that are available as it works great until it fails...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from useful for applying sealer to slate mosaic tile backsplash Used this to apply penetrating sealer to a slate mosaic tile backsplash. Size was good because it spanned several tiles. Worked well, held just the right amount of sealer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay for simple fill-in Worked fine in small areas, but not good for edging as I'd hoped

Rated 1 out of 5 by from fell apart, little bristles came out into the paint, and pad was sticking to the wall like glue I painted and thought it was ok. But when the sun light hit the surface I could see thousands of little hair like bristles embeded into the paint. I had to sand all that mess off. I then used a 4 inch foam hot dog roller and that worked fine. The pad also wanted to stick to the surface unless loaded with lots of paint. It took a lot of force to keep the pad moving. For whatever reason it did not like the Behr paint. The on positive was I was able to make a very smooth surface of paint. I also got paint all over my hands using it, the paint would load up on the edges of the pad and get on the styrofoam handle and all over my fingers. Since it was dragging, I snapped one of the corners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this paint pad! Very easy to use and get a great look - similar to brush marks, but finer. Much faster than brushing. Much easier to hold than a brush - my wrist doesn't ache like when brushing. Long strokes are easy. I've painted doors and lots of 6' boards with no lifting. The grip is right over the pad, so control is much better than with pads that have an offset handle. These pads are very durable. They last through long jobs. I've even cleaned and re-used them several times after latex paint (just rinse with water and squeeze the paint out of the sponge pad below the fibers). One time when the paint had dried around the edges of the pad, I just used a utility knife to trim off the hard spots and used the pad some more!
