Frequently Bought Together

Product Overview

Ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) are an effective means of preventing sever electrical shock. GFCI's are installed to protect areas of the home, such as the kitchen, bathroom or laundry, where electrical appliance or products may come into contact with water. To protect equipment from damaging ground faults, Siemens GFCI's continuously monitor the difference in current between the hot and neutral conductors. If the electricity going to an outlet equals the current coming back from the outlet, the GFCI is dormant. If the electricity going to an outlet is greater than 5 mA than the current coming back from the outlet, the GFCI will open the circuit to stop of flow of electricity.

What the purpose of this breaker vers, a regular breaker

Asked by: todd
Hi todd, A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) circuit breaker is designed to protect persons from harmful current. The breaker can detect when current is flowing through a path that it normally wouldn't (I.E. water, person, etc.) and trips to prevent harm.

Will this GFCI work in my Square D breaker panel, Cat No. SC3040M2005, Series M02?

The house was built in 1970 using aluminum wire. There are no GFCI breakers or receptacles anywhere in the house. To install GFCI receptacles would require transitioning from aluminum to copper to the receptacle. The only allowed methods are copalum, alumiconn, or rewire. It would be simpler to use a GFCI breaker in the panel.
Asked by: UnHandyAndy
Hi UnHandyAndy, It is not recommended that you mix and match circuit breakers from one manufacturer with another manufacturers panel. Our Siemens GFCI circuit breakers would only be listed as approved on the wiring diagram for Siemens panels.

Is my breaker faulty?

When I opened the package the first thing I tested was the toggle switch and the breaker would not lock into the on position. Is this normal or a defect with the breaker?
Asked by: Jay
Hi Jay, In order for this device to function properly the white pig tail must be connected to the neutral and energized. If this is the case and you are still having issues please contact our Siemens Technical Support at 1-800-333-7421.
