Product Overview

General Duty Safety Switches are intended for applications where reliable performance and continuity of service are needed, but where duty requirements are not severe and usual service conditions prevail. These switches are intended for use primarily with supply circuits rated 240V AC or less where the available fault current is less than 100,000A when used with Class R or T fuses or 10,000A max when used with Class H fuses.

  • 240V, single phase, 2 wire, non-fusible safety switch
  • Quick-make, quick-break operating mechanism that ensures positive operation
  • Generous wiring gutters that meet or exceed NEC wire-bending space requirements
  • Visible blade, double-break switch action
  • Highly visible on/off indication
  • Single cover interlock
  • Side-hinged door that opens 180˚For easier wiring
  • Unique enclosure design that adds rigidity and strength, its rolled edge prevents cuts and scrapes to conductors and to installer's hands
  • NEMA type 3R: enclosure is intended for outdoor use primarily to provide a˚ of protection against falling rain and sleet and must remain undamaged by the formation or ice on the enclosure; they are not intended to provide protection against conditions such as dust, internal condensation, or internal icing

Can this switch be used to connect to the load center of the main service panel

The load center is on a 125A Main Service panel but it is protected by a 30A fuse. One side of the switch will to a solar array which produces 10A at 240AC The other side of the switch would go to the load center on the main service panel, protected by a 30A fuse. The main service panel is Schnedier Homeline SC2040M125PF Thank you in advance!
Asked by: solarowner
Hi solarowner, This switch is suitable for circuits of not more than 10,000 A, 240V max when it's protected by a 60 amp max fuse or circuit breaker. If the load center is rated more than 10,000 A then you could get a GF321R which is rated for up to 100,000 KA when it is protected by a 30 amp max class R fuse.

Is this a load-break disconnect?

Asked by: Exranger06
Hi Exranger06, Yes, this would be a load break disconnect. Manually turning the switch off would open the circuit and cut off current.

Can this switch be used as a transfer switch for my generator?

I have 200 amp main service coming from the meter to the main outdoor panel. I have a generator with a 50 amp breaker for the 240 volt outlet. Can I put this Safety Switch between the meter and the main outdoor panel and use it as a disconnect switch when I hook up my generator?
Asked by: Marc
This switch is rated 60 amp but your service is 200 amp. You may not install this switch between the meter and main breaker panel. You may consider installing a interlock kit on your existing main breaker panel. An example would be the Siemens ECSBPK03 or ECSBPK08
