Customer Questions & Answers

can we make this gate 34 x 6 does all the harware for installation comes with it like a door to close and open

Asked by: Erwin
The gate cannot be made shorted without major carpentry alteration. It would require dis-assembly of the lower panel. I would not recommend trying this. The gate mounting hardware must be purchased separately. I would recommend the product suggested by the Home depot web site.

Can you drill in lock & key into the wood fence door?

Does this fence have the measurements to withstand drilling in a of lock & key?
Asked by: Glow
Should be easy to do. The gate kit I purchased with the gate has the ability to have a lock installed.

What kind of tool did you use to put together the gates?

We purchased two gates and love the look, but they are very flimsy and coming apart. We have looked for some sort of allen wrench to tighten them up, but can't find any. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you

3 ft. x 6 ft. Western Red Cedar Arch Top Horizontal Lattice Fence Gate is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had to return The middle part woods are weak and there was gap between them, I had to return.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Who let this off the shop floor? The basic gate is all right. The wood looks nice and the design is good; it looks just like the picture. But the workmanship is sloppy. The excess glue oozed out of the joints and hardened in big globs at all four corners. The vertical slats in the lattice are stapled in crooked. There is a crack in one of the 1x4s. One side rail is a quarter inch high. If it had been made in my shop, I would not have let it leave, and whoever put it together would have had to do it over on his own time. I would have returned the gate to HD but I'm a bit pressed for time. I scraped off the excess glue and sanded the flaking grain, so it will be all right. but I recommend that anyone who buys one of these gates inspects it immediately before taking it home -- and returns it on the spot if it's as sloppy as mine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Attractive, well-made gate, good price. The gate is solidly constructed and appeared just as expected. Great value for the price. Moderate weight made it easy to mount. Had one stain on 'B' side, apparently oil, but not bad enough to return, as I planned to stain the gate. Side rails are fairly narrow, so plan for appropriate hinges. Lattice at top takes patience to stain, plus a small brush for details. Tongue-and-groove panel 'floats' in the frame, so I suggest centering it as you like, then securing the two side boards top and bottom with small, stainless steel or galvanized finish nails. This will prevent a gap developing at either side, which does happen otherwise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Custom 12' gate using buildagate and their 6' panels Great product love the modern look! so i needed a 12' wide gate to enter my backyard after looking around i couldn't find anything that was 6' wide and said gate. knowing that all gates sag and never last very long i found homedepot sells a product called build-a-gate and says it holds 750 lbs and that was with the cheaper of the two I used the $49.99 build-a-gate kit they make one that has 2 stringers and one with 3 that's more expensive the 2 stringer worked fine. which you will need to use 2x8's instead of 2x4's which it typically calls for. then i simply built the 6' normal signature fence panel and then screwed it right into the face of the 2x8's using a 3" outdoor wood screw, at the top and at the bottom make sure to go through the thickest part of the signature pannel otherwise i'm sure it would eventually split. Presto now i have a gate that will never sag since the buildagate has all kinds of adjustments and have something very modern looking.
