Hello Mara, this gate has 2inch by 2inch sides that are notched for the top, mid and bottom braces to fit into and held with screws. It works great for a lightweight gate that you can choose your hinges, latch and stain to customize your look. Click on the photo to see it used as a gate.

The panels are the same front and back with the exception of the decorative lattice on the top. As for use as a gate, please see my review regarding insufficient shear strength. I used 4 panels to make 2 gates across a driveway and with added structure it worked well.

Hello Mara,
The appearance on both sides is the same, except on one side you will see the fasteners. As far as if you can use this as a gate that will depend on the hardware you would be using. It may be necessary to re-enforce the areas where you install the hardware. This company also has a line of gates, see the following link.

We have a solid pressure-treated 6 foot privacy fence, but our neighbors can still see us out by the pool from their above-ground deck. We can't plant trees because of the roots/leaves near the pool and the fence toppers sold are only 2 feet tall. Thanks for your help!

Hi Angie. I see you are looking to establish a higher fence line to obtain more privacy. A very common problem and request. I guess my advice would be first that you would have to see if your local codes or perhaps community CC&R's would allow for it. Then assuming the codes didn't matter and there were no CC&R's my next concern would be that of Safety and Wind Loading. The higher you make your fence the more wind load there is on the posts. I have no way to advise you as to that aspect, but as much as I would love for you to use our product I don't want to suggest you proceed without further research. Yes, cosmetically I guess you could use them in that fashion, but be careful not to overload your posts. Thank you for your interest. Read Less

4 ft. x 2.5 ft. Western Red Cedar Arch Top Fence Panel is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice and sturdy Very nice and sturdy. Would recommend. Hinged together to create a barrier for garbage bins.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Unique Design The gates are lightweight because they are made of 100% cedar. If you need multiples, as I did, be aware that the wood colors are very random within the panels as well as between panels. I used them to make a longer swinging gate by joining them side by side and placing a redwood 2" x 4" beneath to hold them together. Nice product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great company! I love my new fence panels! They work great as gates. Julie was so helpful when I called Signature Development with questions. I will be ordering more panels when it's time to replace my fence.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the price These panels are decently made for the price, a real bargain compared to what it would take to build them. With posts and simple hardware they became a trash can enclosure. Required some sanding before finishing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Well constructed and creative design. I often buy products and think, I could have built/designed this better, but not w/ these panels. I keep thinking, how in the world can they sell this at this price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Many uses, great product, great price Originally I purchased 5 of these, 2 to create a screen to hide our large trash bins and 3 to create a screen for our pool pump and filter. Recently I purchased another to extend the screen to hide also the recycling bin. Regarding some comments others have made i.e. doesn't let enough air circulate if your trying to hide AC equipment that is the fault in how you are trying to apply this as opposed to the product itself. Second the quality of some of the panels, this is not unlike picking straight 2x4's out of a pile. You have to inspect and select though this was never an issue for me even with the ones I ordered online that came by UPS. Overall a great product especially for the price that did exactly as I needed replacing some cheap plastic panels that I had purchased a couple of years earlier
