It was extremely easy to put together and all wood except for the most important part which holds everything, the bottom piece is made of pressed wood board. Not going to hold heavy loads. Perfect for shoes though. I have 30 pairs in mine and it's holding just fine.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dawn Great solution for the price
We needed the "entryway bench" for a 'mud' area next to the back door. My guy likes to leave many of his shoes near the door...the bench gives him an area to sit and hides the mess. Fairly easy to assemble and a good solution for the money...also looks nice.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cvk A solid bench for the money
Even though I had to return the unit due to manufacturer flaws and had to order replacement parts for the second unit due to slight flaws in the finish, I still like the bench. I'd say that I'm "picker" than most people. It's a nice looking, solid bench for the money. Let it be known that the wood is extremely soft and the finish does scratch easily. So if your looking for something that will withstand a beating and still look good, you"ll want to purchase a hardwood bench which will cost you more like $500. Home Depot and the manufacturer's service were great. I had no issues receiving a new bench and the parts that I needed....no hassle! I love that! Thank you

Over all we are truly happy with this purchase. Great quality.
The hinge part was a difficult task. The holes weren't visible and it was hard to screw in.
Had to take the hinges off the part that was already screwed in and hinge it to the bench part first and then screw back in.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fromhalifax Excellent bench, great price, easy assembly
The bench is great. It's very sturdy and well built. I had no problem assembling it with just a screwdriver. Everything matched up and lined up. Where there are supposed to be pre-drilled holes, they in fact are. As for the vertical supports then they are supposed to be pushed tight into the corners and screwed with six or eight screws each. And those holes are not supposed to be pre-drilled to create a precise custom fit. No power tools required and no pre-drilling.
Where the lid is attached to the hinges required some miniscule adjustments by loosening the screws and tightening them again while pushing the lid half a millimeter one way or another.

I like the color....much better than the black ones in the stores. It was easy to put together......except for the lid....really need two people for that part. No complaints with the assembly or instructions.
One complaint is the hinge is way too strong for the lid and does not allow it to shut all the way down. I will probably just remove it so it allows the lid to close properly.
The other thing that should be mentioned is....
I wish they could have not missed edges during the staining process.....there are white unstained edges that I will have to get out some dark color stain to cover up. Not a big deal but still a pain.
I would recommend it however, cause the price is not bad.

We bought this bench locally at a Home Depot. For the price, it generally has good construction but is made of pine. As a result, it may be more susceptible to dents. It had the look that we wanted for our entry hallway and fit perfectly. One major issue with it is that the lid does not shut completely and stays ajar a few cm. I tripled checked the instructions to ensure it was not an assembly error. Even the display model at Home Depot had this problem.
As for assembly, we had 2 problems with parts. Firstly, a whole package of screws (36 screws) was missing. Secondly, the latch holding the top lid was defective. Although inconvenient, we were able to replace these parts at the Home Depot.
