Customer Questions & Answers

Should the tiles be installed in a staggered pattern or can it be installed in rows?

Is it recommended to lay the carpet tiles in a staggered pattern so the seams don't show as easily? Or can it be installed square next to square or will this show the lines of the carpets tiles more?
Asked by: HFast
They work like any tiled item - they have arrows and you must line the arrows up to have a seamless pattern. You can however install them any way you want for desired look.

Tack strips and butting up carpet to tile

We are looking to replace our stained carpet & padding. Should we remove our tack strips or install on top of them? Also, we have tile & other carpet it will butt up to. Should we put a strip on top of the 2 for maximum adhesion? If so, can you recommend any that HD has that last and don't come undone? TY for your time! :)
Asked by: kakijade
You will want to remove your tack strips for sure! You have to install on a smooth/ totally flat surface. That way they stick 100%. And yes, you will want to get what they call Transition Strips to go between the carpet tiles and the other flooring surfaces in your home. HD carries different kinds (wood/metal) and various finishes to match the decor in your home. You should be able to find the Transition Strips with the other flooring supplies. The strips sort of clamp down on the two surfaces that they cover to ensure that the raw edges don't move or come undone over time. They are almost always the kind that you have to nail into the sub floor.

Are transition strips necessary?

What do you do in a doorway? Won't the carpet tile fray?
Asked by: gigi
I would recommend it. Techically if you put full piecse without cuts in the seam, they would be okay, but over time might be a problem. I just installed some in a doorway. Be advised, the sticky adhesive does not work...the edge pieces in my doorway won't stay down.

So you don't need padding with this carpet? It has a pad attached?

Asked by: Tiffany
That is correct. The pad is attached. For a softer feel, you might want to try one of the thicker products as the amount of face fiber will have almost as much of an impact on the feel under foot as the padding.

Serenity Espresso Texture 24 in. x 24 in. Residential Carpet Tile (10 Tiles/Case) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 385.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely amazing!!! We were looking for an affordable flooring alternative for our daughters bedroom after she left for college. Her room was a converted attic space and is not heavy traffic. My husband was not a fan at first and thought we would be wasting our money, but I convinced him to trust me. I followed the instructions meticulously and installation went quickly and easily! It's been nearly 2 years and the carpet looks like it was installed yesterday! We have had many guests use the room and they all comment on how great the carpet looks and feels, and several have used it in their own homes! KICKER...I even used it on the stairs! The stairwell was very dark and dreary and we added a knee wall at the top, which made them even darker. I did use double-sided carpet tape where the rise met run of the steps (both on rise and tread) as well as under the bullnose edge...and they have NOT MOVED at all! They have held up incredibly well! Thank you for offering such a fantastic and affordable option!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Perfect I am disabled and on a fixed income. The carpet in the bedroom absolutely had to be replaced and this was the ideal product. I ordered on-line and the tiles were delivered to my door. I was able to lay them myself at my own pace over the course of 1 week. I am very pleased with the results.

I Really like the feel and look of it. It doesn't look or feel cheap at all - the installation is fairly simply although the box doesn't come with instructions. I had never laid tile or anything like this so I didn't know how to go about it. Using something I found online led me to start in the dead center of my room which caused me a huge problem. However, the main problem is the stick back on this product DOES NOT WORK. When I first removed a tile from the box, peeled the backing, touched it and it felt barely sticky at all, I knew there was a problem. I opened a second box and found the same...and again a third box. I assumed maybe this was normal. It installed okay and looks great, however the tile is not stuck to the floor but in a few places. There is an issue with the adhesive in production. Worse - Home Depot would not do anything but direct me to Berkshire flooring warranty claim - and they have been unresponsive. I am still awaiting a response from them. I really like this, but at this point my floor needs to be completely redone a) due to non stick b) no installation instructions I needed to start at a different point. Very upset as I had a set budget. Buyer beware.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Order all you need at one time We purchased five boxes to cover one bedroom. We watched a video from the manufacturer on how to install. In the video, they illustrated to start in the middle of the room. Which we mistakenly did. After installing from the middle of the room outward, we discovered it would have been better to install from one side of the room to the other. It seemed like installing it middle outward ended up in a lot of waste. Installation was easy enough, but almost a two person job. My husband and teenage daughter installed it together. The preparation, tearing out old carpet and cleaning sub-flooring, was the most time consuming. We ran out of carpet and couldn't finish. I don't really know what happened, it should have been enough by my calculations, but it wasn't. I ordered another box and when that box came, the color did not match. It was the supposed to be the same, but it was slightly different and the texture was also different. In addition, three of the tiles came with glue on the carpet side of them, which would have been a deal breaker. However, we needed to trim pieces anyway, but had we not needed to trim them, I would have been very upset. The carpet looks good, but you can see seams. The color is a nice tan color and I think it will be okay as far as wear and showing dirt. It is a million times better than what we had, or I wouldn't be incredibly happy with it. It was a fairly quick project, about six hours total from start to finish for one bedroom. The biggest job was pulling out the old carpet and staples and cleaning up the sub floor. Actually putting in the carpet tiles was fairly quick and simple. I liked it enough that I am planning on purchasing more of the same color for another bedroom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install and look great We got these tiles for a basement bedroom that had such a terrible cold floor in the winter. A little expensive but probably still cheaper than professional carpet install, and you can do it yourself even with no experience. My husband laid them himself in only a few hours. Just make sure all the arrows on the backs are going the same direction and that no fibers are trapped between each tile and they will look seamless! Ours look great and feel much nicer than the hard, cold laminate underneath. Fairly easy to cut to size around closet and door openings. I think we will do these for our other bedroom and hallway as well! Really couldn't be happier with them; the room feels transformed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it but this lot seems to have some manufacturer issues This is the third time we have purchased this product. We are slowly replacing old flooring throughout the house. The past two purchases/installations were great. This time the carpet seems to have some issues with loose carpet on one of the edges that pulls out very easily during installation leaving bare spots right at the seams. Our other boxes didn't have this trouble. We love this stuff because it is inexpensive and so easy to install. It is not the highest quality and looses it's cush after a while, but we didn't have high expectations to start with given the cost. Photo shows our old installation (+2 years) and our newest installation from last week.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hard wood floor warning!! I had these down for two years in my dining room and hallway. They looked very good! However I pulled them up to re-do my hardwood floors and there is adhesive stuck all over the wood. They were EXTREMELY difficult to lift up. I had to pry pull each inch up they were stuck so tight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I expected! I buy properties and rehab them and rent them out and wanted to try this out for the first time. Way better than I expected. Went on a concrete slab. Just make sure you get all the dust off the floor and then wipe each spot as you go along. The self adhesive seemed wimpy at first, but once you stick it down and step on it, it didn't want to come back up very easy, so that's good. Although, there are no installation instructions, each carpet tile as an arrow printed underneath. Make sure you point all the arrows the same direction each time or you will see the difference in the pile direction. After installing an entire room, I couldn't see the lines of the carpet squares at all! Looks great, very happy!!
