Would this work to anchor a swingset?
Asked by: Sherpaboy
As per the other response, we do not have any products we can refer to for swing set applications as they have not been evaluated with regards to the forces that a swing may put on them. Thank you!

Outdoor use

How well do these posts work outdoors? I'm building a small foundation for a 8x8 plastic shed and need to elevate some pressure treated 4x4 runners with pressure treated plywood, several inches above hard ground with grass. I should use elevated posts the are galvanized instead?
Asked by: askingquestions
First I want to point out that the EPB bases must be installed in concrete. The EPB44 has the Simpson Strong-Tie® gray paint finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection. It can also be ordered with the hot-dip galvanized finish (EPB44HDG) which provides a medium level of corrosion protection and can be used in many applications with treated wood, but not all. Please see the Corrosion section of our website to determine the recommended finish for your specific application based on environment, type of treated wood being used, chemical retention, etc. Thank you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from well made product This post base is does what it is intended to to. It is designed to be set into poured concrete. It is not intended to be in a fence or mailbox application. It is intended to be used in combination with other posts/ colunms and bracing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not recommended for non top-supported installations Easy to use, but WOBBLY. I wasn't aware that these were a bad idea to use for a trellis until I I was half done with the build and noticed it swaying in the wind. The information posted here: "Not recommended for non top-supported installations" was not posted in my local Home Depot store where I purchased them. They were merely piled up in a torn-up box with a price tag below. If I wasn't a construction bone-head, I may have known better…. These are probably fine for whatever they're intended for, and they look sturdy, but for those doing fences, trellises, etc., they're not going to provide a very stable base.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Make sure you read the description. This is NOT for fences. Unfortunately, I failed to see that in the product description, bad on me. Something that looks like it's made for fencing and is available in the regular store (which is where I bought it) is definitely not for fencing. It probably works fine,, as the description says, if you use it for a carport or something, but for regular fencing, it's definitely wobbly- not solid at all. On top of that, it's only intended for pressure treated lumber- does not fit with cedar- meaning that you have to trim or sand the 4x4's before you put them in. Just be aware of what this product is and what it's not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant! this product was very helpful for our deck project, that needed a sturdy foundation We built a deck off of our second story bedroom suite. We used 9 ' posts and had to attach them to concert footings. This product served that purpose very well. This post base is very sturdy, and was easy to install. We are confident that we will have a long lasting sturdy deck.
